Washington, D.C.At just past noon on Wednesday, anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan and the rest of the Bring Them Home Now tour were stopped by a pair of squad cars two blocks from the U.S. Capitol by members of the Capitol police force. Officers explained that they wanted to use bomb-sniffing dogs to inspect the caravan of three RVs and several cars.
The officers said it was standard practice to inspect large vehicles in the area. RVs arent allowed on Capitol Hill, one said. Thats standard procedure. Any trucks that come on Capitol Hill are stopped and turned around. Campers arent allowed at all, the officer said, unless theyve been previously authorized.
Officers told the peace activists they couldnt park at the Capitol because they dont have the proper permits. Sheehan and company then began preparing to make the rest of the trek on foot. Awaiting them near the Capitol steps were a crowd of television cameras for a scheduled noon press conference.
Earlier this week in New York Citys Union Square park, police officers unplugged Sheehans microphone, saying she didnt have a proper permit for that either.
People with Bring Them Home Now seemed unfazed. Its always something, said Stacy Bannerman of Military Families Speak Out, whose husband spent a year fighting in the Sunni Triangle. Its just part of the deal.
The conference is being held by Sheehan and the others to announce their arrival in Washington and to kick off a weekend of resistance that is expected to include a march of 100,000 people and mass civil disobedience.
At 1:30 p.m., Sheehan and her allies plan to head to the White House, where theyll attempt to give President Bush a letter asking him to answer the question, What noble cause are our loved ones dying for?
Yeah Cindy...nothing like civil disobedience to get the peace message across.
Let loose the rumor that some of the canines are drug-sniffing ones and watch the fun begin.
heh....shoulda been burrito!
There are more Americans than you Cindy. I agree it would not be a noble cause if they were fighting for those of you who wish to destroy America but there are still some good people left here.
"I'm waiting for her to claim that the Republicans are an "occupying force."
She already said that the US Troops are "occupying New Orleans and should leave."
Shirley & Laverne
HEH HEH! There will be a mass exodus of the Leftist group on the 24th.
Rush said this the day after Cindy dissed Hillary. Cindy's free press ride is over - she ticked off the wrong person.
Remember Katherine Willey and her dead cat.
No one should laugh about the rule "Never cross the Clintons!"
Are you going to tell me not one of those dogs were trained to sniff out drugs? Because I'm not going to believe there weren't any drugs in that entire group.
(note, I am against the WOD, but it would have been funny)
Family life also has been difficult for Stacy Bannerman, whose husband left Seattle for Iraq with his National Guard unit in February. Bannerman's life work has been with peace organizations and she has publicly opposed the war from its start.
STACY BANNERMAN: We should be crying about this. We should be. This country should be.
But her husband embraces his mission. One evening last month, as she attended a Seattle-area meeting of Military Families Speak Out, he telephoned from Baghdad.
STACY BANNERMAN: Sometimes I wonder if I'm... am I somehow, in some way, shape or form betraying him? Of course, that's crossed my mind. And yet, how can my wanting to preserve his life and the lives of tens of thousands of others, how could that ever potentially be seen as a betrayal?
Stacy Bannerman is a contributor to Foreign Policy In Focus (www.fpif.org) and on the Advisory Board of Military Families Speak Out (www.mfso.org). Her book When the War Came Home: The Inside Story of Citizen Soldiers and the Families Left Behind, will be released by Continuum Publishing in 2006. Her husband deployed to Iraq with the Army National Guard 81st Brigade in March 2004, and returned home on March 11, 2005.
Commies
Of course, Bush is supposed to be in the Gulf Coast today, proceeding onto Texas. She's in the wrong place to deliver a letter.
Maybe that's where that $100,000.00 went!
A two block "trek." Poor Cindy, forced to walk 2 blocks on foot.

I love this first NYC and now this. Hmmmm I wonder if they have a permit for a speaker system in D.C. I hope they don't and get their plugs pulled again!
I am suprised, I would have figured that the dogs would have discovered drugs in the Anti-War protestors vehicles.
I guess their mass disobedience didn't start with parking their RVs where they could not go...
I wish it were, unfortunately we have only slightly more ugly per capita than any other city. But "Mother" Sheehan's arrival certainly tips the scales and makes Washington the ugliest city in the country.
