We plan for my wife to take her ailing mother to Austin (she lives with us) and the dog and me will ride it out here in Victoria, Texas. The oldtimers who were here for Carla in 1961 are staying for the most part. But no final decision until Thursday AM. Right now I'm finding too many strike maps with Port O'Connor, Port Lavaca and Rockport as landfall. That's a little close for comfort. See ya' on the other side of this.

You're at ground zero. You really should evacuate somewhere. I've got room up here, if you reconsider. And my dogs would love to meet your dog.

Stay in touch as long as you can, please.

And don't forget to find this thread and check back in "on the other side."

Good luck! (And don't be stupid!)

Joe Bastardi at Accuweather.com is calling this the strongest storm to hit Texas, ever, or at least in recoreded history. Carla was a pussycat compared to Rita. One look at the satelite photo will tell you that she's a mean old gal, and not to be triffled with.
