Haven't heard of a separate thread. There have been a few offers throughout this thread. Sounds like a good idea.

Do you have any materials to re-inforce the closet? A couple of diagonal cross-members or anything like that?

Since she's not the crying type that would make a real impact. It's worth a try. My sister and mother in Midland are having a hissy fit.

I hope everyone gets out! Please talk him into leaving! My brother stayed in Mobile during Katrina and wished he hadn't...and that was in Mobile!!

If anyone's interested, here's his neighborhood after Katrina. He was a lucky young man. Not one tree fell on his house.

They are pictures 31-43 on this album:

PLEASE don't anyone stay who is in the path of this storm! You will all be in my prayers!

My wife and I (and our corgi and 2 cats) are in The Meadows (now offically known as "Meadows Place"), which is basically @ 59 S just past the Beltway. My wife's daughter from Surfside (and her Lab and 1 cat) will ride it out with us.

Does any have a suggestion as whether I should take the beltway to the north or the south. Thanks.

Get somewhere where you can go west. 290 will probably be congested, but I-45 and 59 are going to be parking lots.Get on Hwy. 6 before you get to Austin and head up to Waco.

Where are you going?

Have you heard anything about going I-10 East traffic wise?

Thanks for helping. Now where the heck is Spiff?

I'm working on the map right now. I'm only including people who say they're riding it out. I've got other names (see Onyx's post) but we don't which of those people are actually riding it out. If they don't post it here and they're staying, I haven't added it to the map. Gimme a few minutes for me to get all the way through this thread and I'll get a map up.

Ignore my previous post. I don't know the highways in deep East Texas.

Dog,

Sleep, if you can, with your shoes on. If the power goes out and windows are shattered there will be glass everywhere.

I actually do, now that I think of it. I can definitely add some strength. Thanks!

I understand your hubby's mindset. I did the same back in '83 when Alicia hit - we were living in Liberty County near Dayton. That thing scared the heck outta me. What was so bad was we lived in a dang trailer house back then and it hit at night so I couldnt see anything. The next morning the trees were all over the roads - no way to drive out. I never will live in a trailer house again.

You guys have a very good chance of losing power - being nearer the coast. We have a good chance, too if this thing hits above Freeport and gets close.

I took off from work early today just to replenish a few supplies. The stores were packed. No more batteries at all - just the little AA's.

We are okay in supplies, however. I probably will go to work tomorrow - Friday may not.

Stay tuned and hang tight.

As it stands now, yes we will stay at home. Alternatively, we also might go about 2 miles north to stay at my sister's home. It is built like a fortress.

If we bug out to somewhere other than Sugar Land, we can't do it until tomorrow. My 94 year old f-i-l stays at a private home care facility in Fresno, and they have been given orders by the State to evacuate. They have nowhere to go with the 12 residents, so we are going to pick him up early tomorrow. Which we are happy to do. I don't think our place is any less safe than where he is, but hey, we're not French so his well being is a critical issue (to put it mildly).

We have food, water, other beverages, propane for the grill, batteries, candles, gas in the car, etc. Oh, and lots of ammo. I went to Kroger at highway 6 & Settler's Way this morning. It was a madhouse, but there was still plenty of canned food. It looks like most everyone around here is planning to stay.

See if you can make a stout section within the closet to be under that could protect you from flying debris.

What is the outside wall made of?
