I know alot of people hate IMUS but I do think he's hilarious in being "mean" to the cancer survivor kids who come to his Cancer Ranch and he makes them work and learn to do things on a ranch - what they seem to like so much about the experience is that they are treated like teens, and they want to feel normal again.
I always try and treat my patients the way I would want to be treated - a little "tongue in cheek" humor goes a long way!
Hi Sunny...how have you been? Have not talked to you lately...I dont get on FR too often...the hubby and I are very busy, doing some home remodeling, before we set out in our RV, and see the USA...the hubby retired a few months ago, and is loving retirement...and I love having him around...so home remodeling is in order for us, hope to have everything done by the holidays...
Then once the holidays are over, and we have the house the way we want it, we will close up the house, jump into the RV, and drive and tourist around, and camp out, and just enjoy ourselves....will return to the house, only for short rests, or any family emergencies...life is grand...
Yes, children with cancer know that they are ill....but they dont want to be pitied..they want to be treated as normallly as possible for as long as possible...they have their very bad days, but they have their good days as well...and on those good days, they want life to be normal, as does everyone else...many of those children with cancer do survive, but still, many do not...but these children, with their optimism about life, and their resilience, and their sweet nature, no matter their prognosis, no matter their diagnosis, love to live their lives to the fullest...they can be a role model for us all...
Yes, I know that a lot of people do not like Imus at all, but he is correct to treat those children who come to his ranch as normally as he would treat other children...if he all of a sudden, stopped being the mean, nasty, crochety curmudgeon that he is, and turned all sweet, those kids with cancer would immediately think that he knew something dire about their condition that they did not know..and therefore he was being sweet..., treating kids with cancer, as normally as possible, within reason of their medical condition, is the way to go...
So nice to talk with you again...a true pleasure...
