Woman in power is powerless when it comes to meeting men
http://www.mcall.com/ ^ | September 17, 2005 | Amy Alkon

Dear Amy: I'd like to be in a relationship again, but I never even get asked out (unless you count frisky 85-year-olds and drunks at the corner bar). I'm a 32-year-old woman who's happy, sociable, and attractive. (I paid for college by modeling and continue to take care of myself.) I'm second-in-command at a big company, financially secure, and own a beautiful home. How can I meet men in general, and more specifically, men I'd actually want to date?

Deluxe Chopped Liver

Dear Deluxe: To scare away vampires, it takes garlic and crosses, which make ugly bulges in sleek, satin evening bags. Luckily, all you have to do to scare away men is pull out a business card that says ''senior vice president.''

''Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac,'' said Henry Kissinger. Sure it is — unless you're a woman. Research by Stephanie L. Brown and Brian P. Lewis, published in Evolution and Human Behavior (Nov. '04), seems to confirm what many lonely women at the top already know: When guys go for the woman in the boardroom, it isn't the woman running the meeting but the secretary who wheeled in the coffee and croissants before it started.

Sure, plenty of men will scamper up the corporate ladder for a one-night stand. But, according to Brown and Lewis' study, men looking for dates or relationships tend to prefer their subordinates to their colleagues or bosses. The researchers hypothesize that men evolved to want women they can control as a means of guarding against ''parental uncertainty'' — unwittingly raising kids fathered by the Neanderthal next door as their own. Brown and Lewis think this may also explain why men are suckers for ''behavioral expressions of vulnerability'' — women who act like they might not be able to make it across the street

Look at it this way, Ivan--these selfish, entitled wenches will just Darwin themselves right out of the gene pool. ;)

Yes, but they'll probably become withered shrews who decide to enter politics along the way. Look at Glenda Jackson.

(Not without safety goggles, mind)

Regards, Ivan

This company is very serious about their policy and I know of persons being transferred to a different client for violation.

It is an international service firm and actually selective in accepting clients. I happen to think it is successful because clients actually believe the company hype about training and selection.Neither are anywhere near what is claimed. I will forego naming them until changing employment.

Females of all ages have asked Me that quesion, and after all they are all girls at heart and even address each other that way.

When I read apackof2's comment about girls asking what you drive, I thought she was referring to the maturity level of those girls, rather than the chronological ages. I've met some of those immature types (they come in both genders), and some people have even come right out and asked what I paid for something if it looked expensive.

Personally, I'll ask only if I have a good idea he owns anything older than 1969. New cars are nice but they're all the same and they're everywhere. The more expensive the car, the more I wonder where the priorities are, unless they are so wealthy they can afford to throw away way too much money on a machine that can still get a flat.

...but I've never met anyone who was actually that rich, just those who try to impress that way.

It has been My experience that 'women of means' tend to look down their noses at men who make less than they do or are perceived to be much further down the social scale than they hold themselves to be.

To a large extent, it's the "trophy boyfriend" issue. They want somebody who their circle of (female) friends will be impressed with. Dating a plumber would lower their status, and they fear being gossiped about and laughed at behind their backs. My friend (in construction) found several women who felt he was good to hang out with, as long as the relationship was kept "discrete".

There's a similar dynamic with male executives, just not as bad.

If by 'no social skills', you mean: 'small equipment'.

So your point is that you can quantify someone totally as merely the sum of their posession(s)? I used to operate a '69 Mercury Cougar. The outside looked like hell, and the interior needed a lot of work, but as an Engineer I modified the bloody thing behind the dash and under the hood to where it was a real terror on the road -or off of it!

I had an early-70's Mercury Comet, outside banged up, NICE V8 under the hood, and from before anti-pollution gear robbed you of performance. The thing I liked most was the ability to park it on a New York street and have it still be there when I returned

I figured that correlation was common knowledge. I watched a corvette roll up to the bar and the waitresses ran to the window to see it. They all giggled when one said: "Nice 'vette. Sorry about your penis...."

Unfortunately, with the prevalence of modern-day FemiNazis on all the campuses these days and the standard sitcom male-as-incompetent-loser characterization of us, ALL females view themselves as Sleeping Beauty, and refuse to contemplate a relationship with a male that is any iota less than her previously-fixated standards has mandated.

I have a number of divorced friends. One phenomenon I see is that in their early 30's, many married women experience a "mid-life crisis" where they decide "I can do better than my current husband". So they dump him, often fleece him as much as possible, frequently take up with "Mr Better/Hotter" before breaking the news that they want a divorce, etc.

With several of the women, they belatedly discover that finding somebody better than their original husband, AND WHO WILL PUT UP WITH their baggage, is easier said then done. Then they become unhappy and depressed.

It became such when women began labeling it as "Sexual Harassment" and "Stalking". Now a man just does not know which way to turn. Incidentally, My girlfriend at the time clued Me in at how to distinguish genuine interest for the more darkly-shrouded intents. She informed Me: "It's 'Sexual Harassment' if the girl DOESN'T like you."

More to the point, it's RETROACTIVE "Sexual Harassment" if it begins with her liking you, and she then changes her mind.

News flash: Women look for security from a man. Its a positive characteristic. Security includes the monetary means by which he can provide for her.

Years ago I dated a fellow that used to enjoy trading 'friendly' barbs. During one of our barb-trading sessions, he asked me what I thought of his new car -- a shiny little red two-seater. I tossed off some comment like guys with little red cars have to try harder, and it wasn't a week later that car was replaced with something with four doors.

If you don't date by choice how would know if a woman was "marriage material"?
