Woman in power is powerless when it comes to meeting men
http://www.mcall.com/ ^ | September 17, 2005 | Amy Alkon

Dear Amy: I'd like to be in a relationship again, but I never even get asked out (unless you count frisky 85-year-olds and drunks at the corner bar). I'm a 32-year-old woman who's happy, sociable, and attractive. (I paid for college by modeling and continue to take care of myself.) I'm second-in-command at a big company, financially secure, and own a beautiful home. How can I meet men in general, and more specifically, men I'd actually want to date?

Deluxe Chopped Liver

Dear Deluxe: To scare away vampires, it takes garlic and crosses, which make ugly bulges in sleek, satin evening bags. Luckily, all you have to do to scare away men is pull out a business card that says ''senior vice president.''

''Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac,'' said Henry Kissinger. Sure it is — unless you're a woman. Research by Stephanie L. Brown and Brian P. Lewis, published in Evolution and Human Behavior (Nov. '04), seems to confirm what many lonely women at the top already know: When guys go for the woman in the boardroom, it isn't the woman running the meeting but the secretary who wheeled in the coffee and croissants before it started.

Sure, plenty of men will scamper up the corporate ladder for a one-night stand. But, according to Brown and Lewis' study, men looking for dates or relationships tend to prefer their subordinates to their colleagues or bosses. The researchers hypothesize that men evolved to want women they can control as a means of guarding against ''parental uncertainty'' — unwittingly raising kids fathered by the Neanderthal next door as their own. Brown and Lewis think this may also explain why men are suckers for ''behavioral expressions of vulnerability'' — women who act like they might not be able to make it across the street

There have even been scientific studies of courtship behavior,...

When I was just entering the age in which girls should start learning how to act like young ladies, the Feminazi "women-need-men-like-fish-need-bicycles" Shriekers were just getting their wind. I really think I missed out on a lot of training in the General Social Niceties department. Notwithstanding the early wackjob indoctrinations I grew up with, I have learned that even though I know I can open my own doors and he knows I can open my own doors, if he would like to open it for me, I would love to let him.

Whoopity-doo. Just because it is in print does not make it true. The New York Times, for example, prints all sorts of stuff, and much of it is fanciful at best. Stop reading all of that doom-and-gloom piffle.

very true, but it does not negate the fact that chopped liver ASSUMES men actually want her.

It would be like a kerry-voting-communist-taxtherich-fathersareuseless left wing woman being surprised that the rich handsome republican conservative single man does not find her desireable.

"Would appreciate some advice on telling the difference between a guy not trying because he's wanting a green light and a guy not trying because he's blowing me off."

If he ain't trying after you've given him a wink, then he has other things going on and you shouldn't waste your time.

I simply don't buy that "perceived threat" crap just because the woman is successful.
Its an lame excuse and trying to lay the blame on males. Many throw that around simply because they are uncapable of seperating their work life from private life when they go home at the end of the day. THey have no concept of sacrifice to balance things out. Its all about "Me, Me, Me" and only doing things on their terms.

I work at a large bank and there is plenty of single/dating males I work with who want women who are smart, career minded, and driven. I look for those qualities as well.

a gentleman opens the doors because he is a gentleman, not because of a power trip.

it was never about a woman opening/not opening up the door.

Good point. But you forget one thing. Woman of a certain age grew up playing with Barbie and Ken. Now Barbie had limitless potential and a wardrobe Paris Hilton would die for. Not much a girl could do with such perfection. But ken, poor Ken. Whatever did Barbie see in him? Metrosexual before metrosexualism. All he had was a couple of suits, Califonia casual wear and a car.
A girl could really focus her makeover talents on Ken.
We grow up but deep inside we still think inside ever guy is a Ken who just needs our fine tuning to be a guy worthy of Barbie's (that would be us) love.

True, but a *real man* in charge does not debase and humiliate the woman or put her in a position where it is likely--he protects her.

Bill Clinton is not a real man, he debased Monica and others as well as his office.

Dogs breed rather indiscriminately and without need of a forebrain; so do earthworms. Unrestrained hormones do not a man or woman make.

Nothing personal, Dog & Dog Gone! ;^)
