BOSTON Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts is refusing to apologize for remarks he made about wiretapping mosques and watching foreign students.
Muslim groups and civil libertarians demanded the apology, saying Romney's remark about mosques "is an affront to the values and principles that make America a great country."
Before the Heritage Foundation Wednesday in Washington, Romney questioned whether the government is gathering intelligence at mosques "that may be teaching doctrines of hate and terror."
He asked, "Are we monitoring that? Are we wiretapping?" Romney also asked if intelligence officials are keeping an eye on students from foreign countries that sponsor terrorism.
He said today that he won't apologize for his statements because he wasn't suggesting anything beyond the scope of what's done by the F-B-I today.
Why should he appolagize for the truth? Every terrorist action I have seen besdide the IRA in the last 25 years has been committed by middle eastern factions of the extremist faith.
Besides oil, it is the Islamic world's foremost export.
I think we're done with Massachusetts candidates for quite some time.
Apologies would get him nowhere with the liberal harpies in the press so why bother?
Romney's come front and center to dispel the mealy-mouthed pc conventions. Whether his presidential campaign will get a boost from his honesty, or fall victim to the vultures of political correctness is yet to be seen. Give the man credit for assessing the climate and telling it as it is. He certainly deserves credit as a latter-day saint.
Prisons must be tapped too.
Right on the money! These recruits are not only faithful, they already have many connections that would help the Islamic cause, why we allow the Saudi's to corrupt our Prisons is beyond me.
I'm sorry, was there something wrong with the Governors' remarks? I must have missed it. The stuff I read is only common sense.
It's too early to be considering '08 in my opinion, but if he's running, he may have just made the top tier of candidates.
Refreshing to see a set like these from the state who ran one of the biggest losers ever to seek the presidency.
Excellent idea
"If you're going to assume every Muslim is a terrorist why not assume every Priest is a child molester?"
Okay. We have a deal.
I wouldn't apologize. I would further add that all hate-mongering suicide-bomb-loving imams be deported.
WOW!
Maybe. There are 1 billion muslims in the world. The biggest estimate for al quada I've seen is 10,000. So, figuring that that is one of several muslim oriented terror networks, lets say that there are 100,000 muslim terrorists in the world. I think that's high, but whatever. This would meant that 0.01 percent of all muslims were terrorists
As for priests, the most recent number I found was 45,000 catholic priests nationaly. I have no idea how accurate that is, but we'll fly with it. Now, that means that if there are fewer pedophile priests than terrorist muslims, there will only be 4.5 bad priests in the united states.
So maybe there's a greater percentage of terrorist muslims, but I doubt it.
