The Associated Press

BOSTON Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts is refusing to apologize for remarks he made about wiretapping mosques and watching foreign students.

Muslim groups and civil libertarians demanded the apology, saying Romney's remark about mosques "is an affront to the values and principles that make America a great country."

Before the Heritage Foundation Wednesday in Washington, Romney questioned whether the government is gathering intelligence at mosques "that may be teaching doctrines of hate and terror."

He asked, "Are we monitoring that? Are we wiretapping?" Romney also asked if intelligence officials are keeping an eye on students from foreign countries that sponsor terrorism.

He said today that he won't apologize for his statements because he wasn't suggesting anything beyond the scope of what's done by the F-B-I today.

Mitt for president. He is pro-choice, but it won't matter. Bush will have already fixed the court.

Why should he apologize for telling the truth?

"that may be teaching doctrines of hate and terror."

Schools, retreats and camps must be tapped too.

It appears to me that Mitt is merely posing questions that deserve answers.

How do they get to the implication that an apology is even in order? Although, this Governor is on crack if he thinks that conservatives would see fit to elect someone to be President who the the majority of Massachusetts voters elected as their Governor.

Is there some reason he should apologize?

I guess they expect him to apologize because he's afraid he'll get killed by the Religion of Peace if he doesn't, like Pym Fortuyn.

Of course, if he speaks out like this, and doesn't end up dead, well, I guess that kind of clears the way for other political leaders to speak out too, doesn't it.

Or explain why they won't. Hmmm.

You mean the so-called 'values' that make America a limp-wrist, panty-waist, sitting-duck target for every Muslime.

This is sick. 180º out of truth. Muslims and their gutter religion Islam are an affront to the values and principals that make America a great country.

This is sick. They can shove it.

Coming from these people, what a joke. They care nothing about what made and keeps America great. And, just a hint, it is NOT Izzlam.

Good. I'm tired of people DEMANDING apologies. I'm glad he isn't going to apologize. We need more people to speak on behalf of this country.

Let cindeee sheehan apologize for the things she says.
Let Sean dip Penn apologize for his remarks and on and on and on. Good for Romney. Way to go!!

That would be an interesting combination-- the governor from the bluest of blue states and the governor from one of the reddest states on the same ticket. I used to think Barbour was unelectable because he was from too deep in the south, but the contrast after Katrina between Barbour and Gov. Blanco couldn't be starker.

I also thought Romney was unelectable because of the Massachusetts connection. Now this-- the first major public figure to suggest Islamofacists be treated like white supremicists. His business pedigree is also very, very impressive-- even before the 2002 olympics rescue.
