"There is no justification to hit someone, even if you are "offended" by his stupid T-Shirt."
I'm afraid I must disagree with you on this one. The t-shirt is the equivalent of "fighting words."
You did notice the description of the back of the t-shirt, right....the two black people being dragged behind the car in nooses?
Sorry. If I'd been there, I'd have punched this kid, and I'm about as white as they come.
Agreed, no way I'd convict if I was on a jury.
If you hit a member of a protected minority for expressing anti-white hate speech, you would be charged with a hate crime before they hit the ground.
How 'bout just saying: "Nice shirt, dip$*&t!"?
Everybody has a right to freedom of speech/expression. OTOH, everybody has a responsibility to take the consequences of it. In this case, he got his consequences.
Wrong, wrong, wrong! No,that kid shouldn't have been wearing such a T shirt in school.
Yes,the kid wearing it should have been punished, perhaps even with long term (or even permanent) expulsion.
Yes,any student offended by the T shirt had the right to go to the Principal's office and complain vigorously (same with any kid's parents)
No,the kid had no right to assault the wearer under those circumstances.
And,BTW...the same would apply if the situation was reversed (black kid wearing a T shirt that says "Kill Whitey",white kid assaulting him).
Yet other people can walk around with anti American shirts, anti-Christian slogans, anti-women garbage, and that's freedom of speech? I saw a hat yesterday that insinuated that sheep are better sexual partners than women. In a Von's pavillion with his KIDS in tow. I agree that the shirt is appalling-so was the hat, but the laws governing what constitutes freedom of speech/expression need to be clarified and more evenly enforced.
So, you wouldn't mind someone punching you for your "words"? How about wife-beaters? Are they justified for hitting their wives during arguments? How about the kid who talks back to the parent and gets a black-eye? Or, are these actions not justified?
Either you want all violence justified, or none.
Why does your race matter in this? Do you feel guilty about something? I'm pretty sure that you never held a person's color against him, right?
I hope you were just as outraged at the rappers condoning the killing of cops. And, as outraged at Kanye West for saying that soldiers were instructed to kill "them" in New Orleans.
There is no reason to justify hitting someone over a t-shirt, no matter how stupid it is.
Interesting. A columnist for the paper at the university I attend wrote an extremely bigoted article mocking Catholics. Am I justified now in beating the crap out of him, or is this just another case of it being dependent upon who is offended? Hey, they were fighting words.
