Only President Washington and President Bush has had two appointments from what I understand. Two appointments would be quite routine, historically. Clinton had two, Reagan had three (O'Connor, Scalia, and Kennedy) . . . GHWB had two, Carter had none (like W in his first term). If the average tenure of a SCOTUS justice were 18 years one vancancy would open up on average every two years.
