How in the world did they come up with that bit of data?
I knew Texas was hosting the most but I didnt realize Arkansas and Tenesee were second and third. I thought Georgia would be higher.
So, I guess this means only 59,000 people are left in the entire state of Louisiana? I wonder how many are going to vote Democrat....
HEY, IF ANYONE IN THE BLUE STATES WANTS A FEW OF OURS IN TEXAS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO INVITE SOME TO YOUR STATE!
(I'm yelling because I'm feeling desperate here...:)
None in Vermont? Go figure. I wonder if Howard Dean knows.
I saw on the news tonight that Hawaii has 2.
We were then told by FEMA and the Red Cross that no one would be coming (supposedly they didn't "want to" leave the shelter).
However, there have been at least two stories published here of local churches renting vans to go to LA to pick up a few relatives of folks in the central Iowa area. When they arrived at the shelters, other people begged to come along. They brought as many as they could with the vehicles available, but many people who wanted to come were left out.
I think some of the "evacuees" are having their decisions made for them, for some reason.
I'm with you. I wish some of the 205,000 would go somewhere else just out of political necessity. This is a Republican state and that many might tip the balance.
That sounds mean and we Texans have big hearts. I think we have had great press with our efforts, but I don't see how we can sustain that many over the long haul.
Every evacuee I have seen on TV said the people are so wonderful in Texas that they are going to stay. Not that I don't love my fellow Americans, but these folks are definitely Democrat voters. I bet the Dems are thinking the same thing.
Utah is a terrific state, I attended college in Utah. I met folks with all different backgrounds while in Utah.
They will not be stared at. Sounds like you seem to think there is something different going on in Utah.
There are many black member's the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Should they choose to leave Utah, it will be their loss.
Understandable ... and I second your statement.
I see that over at DU someone is doing a 'research project' for MoveOn. They are putting together a list of places/addresses of all refugees from Katrina.
Tennesse is the Volunteer State!
At least 8 of these 209 were found to be sex offenders.
I seen on the news the other night where a son and his wife were living in his mothers house while she was away in Iraq in the military. This son had invited a couple of people to come and live with them and it turned out to have ended up with 12 (most unrelated) people living in a three bedroom house and without his mother's consent. She doesn't know anything about it. Now what I would like to know is how long will these people stay at this house? I can just see the sparks fly now. It won't be long before they will be at each others neck. What I would like to see in the future is a follow up on the people who received places to stay and how it worked out for them.
