It is inspiring to meet and talk to such a huge number of individuals who are doing the Lord's work to recover this city.

AMEN ! And the Commander and crew of the good ship IWO JIMA are high on that list.

Just terrific! When I'd heard, the day after Katrina hit, that the IwoJima and her sister ships were sailing from Norfolk, I wondered how they could help because most everyone would have been evacuated by then. Now I see just how important these ships are for the well being of the people doing all the work in NO. Amazing how much a hot bath and a meal will revive them so they can feel like they're ready to get back out and help. A good night's sleep, even in a navy berth, has gotta feel good, too!

I did have a somewhat heated discussion with a liberal friend the other day concerning the reason the ships took a couple of days

The Bataan was there much sooner, but she didn't have far to go. She's the same class as the Iwo Jima, the lead ship of the class was the Wasp. Iwo Jima is 4 years younger than Bataan. The ship between them in the class is the Bonhomme Richard, aka "Happy Dick" (or at least the previous ship to bear that name was so known)

Excellent article. First I've seen published that FEMA was on the ground before the hurricane hit. Thanks for the Ping!

Great pictures. When the Navy and the Marines work together on a common goal, the results can be incredible as shown by these great pictures.

This should be required reading for every media person before writing or speaking another word about the relief effort for Katrina.
This ship did not teleport to NO. It sailed there with a crew, because FEDERAL authorities said that it would be needed.

The work being done by all of the people on board is heroic!

I just received this from my brother-in-law in VABeach.

%%%%%

As I was reading this, I was thinking how I could get a copy to my (80+ yr old) uncle, who is retired Navy, in VA Beach. Hopefully it will get some circulation in newspapers there. Do you think it will?

A fascinating view of the rescue and recovery efforts. Wolf, you need to add this to your pictorial timeline.

Our challenge today was the tidal wave of Flag and General Officers that flooded onboard, 17 total, virtually all without notice.

It's a wonder they got anything at all done!

I doubt it. The MSM is not going to print anything positive about the relief effort, if it involves the military, or makes W look good, or dispels the BS they have been shoveling.
print it out and mail it to him, or send it to someone close by if you have that option.
