Are you just railing against the forces of evil that cause human misery, or was there something more specific that I might have missed? (Just wanting to make sure I didn't miss some part of the story that might single someone out in particular).

Ummmm...
Well, the mom died because of melanoma, IIRC. That means skin cancer. Usually caused by too much exposure to the sun.
