Hurricane Ophelia continues to churn off the off the coast of the Carolinas with a track that has confounded computer models and meteorologists for days. Hurricane watches are issued for much of the SC and NC coastline. Northern GA and southern VA coastal areas are currently within the three day cone of uncertainty. Check local NWS service for updates.

Ophelia has begun to drift west-southwest or 240 degrees at 3 knots. This west-southwest motion is expected to be short-lived since the high is expected to weaken and spread eastward. This pattern should allow the hurricane to gradually turn to the northwest and north...painfully slowly...toward the United States coast within the watch or warning area. Thereafter...the cyclone is expected to be steered northeastward...with an increase in forward speed...
How appropriate.
prolonged torture INDEED. so sad knowing that those in the path have all to REAL and recent images in their mind.
Stay Safe fellow freeper.. grab your honey, your pets, your computer & your pix & GET OUT.
thanks for your ongoing efforts to keep the issues and the "events" of the current tropical storms/hurricanes in our path
Our vacation that was supposed to be spent lounging by the pool and strolling along the beach looking for shells was spent inside watching movies and putting jigsaw puzzles together. It's pretty pitiful when the highlight of the trip for my boys was the visit to Ron Jon's Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach...LOL!!
We still ended up having a good time though, just getting away from the phone and getting hubby away from work for a while.
Now we come home and wait for this nasty storm to potentially visit us here YUCK!!! I'm more worried about my boys not going back to school on Wed of this week as scheduled than any totential damage this hurricane could bring. After multiple hours spent in the van with various forms of sibling rivalry I'm more than ready.
FWI: I'm with you on the fear thing though. The night I spent with Fran going through was one of the worst nights of my life. Who would have thought that as far inland as we are that we'd still have a Cat 2 hurricane? I hope I don't ever have to go through that again.
MKM
I don't have any problem with it.
eeeesh...one of these days, let's have a chat about scheduling Florida vacations during hurricane season...
;o)
265.
Isn't that your house? Not LOL.
Hey, I was lucky and went on a Windjammer Carribean Cruise with him 15 years ago right now. I was new to FL just having moved down from MI. I didn't have a clue about hurricanes. He didn't say a word. It was a perfect week, weather wise. He grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and never experienced a hurricane. The first year we moved up from FL we went through Fran, go figure : )
MKM
Fran was my first bona fide hurricane experience. After that inland experience, I end up on the FL Gulf Coast. Go figure...
I spent my summers from '73 - 80 in Sarasota from the time school got out in NYC in June until Labor day weekend and never knew what a hurricane was until Gloria decided to visit Delaware in 85 (86?).........I never had a clue about them
2am reports on TV have not changed at all.......
Good night all.
That group of models seems to have a line for me, a line for you, a line for my parents, a line for my brothers....
This has been a most interesting storm, but I think it's time for her to go....it makes you wonder what might be behind her, too.
Look at the blue track. That's what my local weatherman (Norfolk, VA) is showing. Landfall in Carteret County, NC, right where my parents live. Dad's been there since 1919 when he was born. Ancestors since 1720's. Mom since 1945. They ain't leaving. Not for a Category 1 or 2 storm. Dad remembers 1933, Hazel, Donna, etc. House has been there since 1948.
I'm waiting to see if the fleet leaves. I stayed for Floyd and Isabel (also Emily and Gloria, which had similar tracks). Should only get Tropical Storm force winds, no problem. These are just things one has to live with on the coast.
The Margaritas were good though.
We left via 17 North up through Wilmington and I could of sworn I saw some Freepers on an overpass with "Remember 9/11" banners. I rode the horn right under the bridge giving them the thumbs up. If they weren't Freepers, they probably should be...
Bump
I'm in Norfolk, too, FH. The way I see it, we're just going to get a soaking with some stiff breezes here. Once again, the lower Outer Banks are going to take the hit for us. I just want to get it over with.
