As an optimist I hope that some of these inner city people will discover that the race baiters of the world are lying about racists around every corner.

I did hear a quote in one of the many stories that I have read about the aftermath... If I remember correctly the man was 36 years old, and after being rescued and taken in by a shelter he stated - "I'm not so scared of white people anymore."
I think you're probably right... This whole thing could be a great big blessing in disguise for many of these people.
