Actually the inexcusable is nagin and blanco's incompetancy.
Brown dealt with 4 Florida hurricanes last year. Of course he had competant state and local govts. to deal with.
Maybe you should know all the facts before going the blind tancredo backstabbing route.
Here's my question, why wasn't the resume padding brought up during all the Florida hurricanes?
>> I had never heard of Michael Brown until Katrina, but so far I'm not impressed.
What do you know about his past accomplishments?
Oh please. What are you trying to do, out drama queen ted kennedy and nancy pelosi.
That being said, what was Jon Corzine's 'qualifications' to be a U.S. Senator? Or Maria Cantwell, the Hildebeast, or that mope senator wench 'mom in sneakers' Patty Murray? Or the likes of Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee and 'Jihad' Cindy McKinney?
Answer: Nada, none, zip, zilch, zero. And these brainiacs write laws that affect us all.
In any case I don't think FEMA 'screwed the pooch' here. It all started with the ijit mayor, was compounded by the brain dead governor and by the time it reached Federal level it was FUBAR.
I hate politicians...always trying to score political points with somebody.
It makes their words and actions always suspect.
>>> Personally I don't care what happens to him, stay or go. <<<
I would prefer the head of FEMA be the person who has the most experience in handling natural disasters. Therefore, Mike Brown needs to stay.
FEMA did not have anything to do with the things that went wrong, though. FEMA is not responsible for maintaining the levees or evacuating. FEMA is not responsible for the National Guard. FEMA's primary responsibility is to pass out the money that Congress approves. That generally doesn't happen on the day after a hurricane anyway.
He should be fired and he should never been put in that position.
His appointment was based on connections, not qualifications, and that may be fine for head of the Forest service, but certinaly not for FEMA - especially in the current poiitical environment.
"Here's my question, why wasn't the resume padding brought up during all the Florida hurricanes"
Yes and exactly who in the country has more experience after all the hurricane hits during the past three years?
Actually nothing. I guess I'm getting too much info from the LSM. That's why I asked what you fine folks thought of him. I'm just here to learn. : )
The Governor should have been the first to go!
"Maybe you should know all the facts before going the blind tancredo backstabbing route."
OK, stop with the baseless personal attacks. That's a pathetic liberal tactic.
Another fact you apparently aren't aware of: 2 major experts in disaster recovery left FEMA last year. This is the first one Brown had to deal with without them. In addition, yes it helped that he had competent gov't officials to deal with last year, but an effective LEADER would have contingencies for lack of state and local efforts. The procedure FEMA was supposed to be following was implemented for chemical and nuclear attack, in which case local and state gov't may not even exist anymore. He dropped the ball.
Wait. Don't jump to conclusions by any story in the News or Post. Tancredo has a history of being misquoted and items taken out of context. He may also be using this to show he's critical of other things besides border issues.
FEMA has been a punching bag by everyone. The right is fearful it will be used to usurp state rights and the left is using it to bash Bush. Brown may need to be fired, but this small 2500 person agency is being over-blamed so far.
Personally, I think FEMA has been a straw-man scapegoat to give cover for the Democrats failure to prepare or execute disaster plans in LA and New Orleans.
Tancredo is just another democrat pleasing media whore.
I think it is absolutely outrageous that publicity seeking politicians are grandstanding in the middle of the relief effort when they have no idea what is going on.
It is counterproductive for these busybodies to be inserting themselves and trying to micromanage the largest relief effort in the history of the U.S. What are their qualifications ?
I say can him. Then, before the dems can finish their back-slapping, appoint Ken Starr to the position.
"I had never heard of Michael Brown until Katrina, but so far I'm not impressed."
>>> I think Bush has to fire him. Especially with the resume padding allegations on top of everything else. <<<
There is no evidence of resume padding. That is MSM spin. And why would the President fire a man who has successfully handled 164 federally declared disasters, including 5 hurricanes, prior to Katrina.
There is a growing list of corrections of foul-ups initially blamed on FEMA that were foul-ups by state and local agencies. One urban myth was the turning away of 500 civilian boats that were pulled in to assist in the relief. It turns out FEMA did not turn them away. A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agent turned them (most of them) away. And now we find out that the Red Cross, which coordinated with FEMA, was turned away from providing food and water to the superdome and convention center by order of the governor.
