The cops would not be arresting them for abandoning their pets in this scenario---but it IS against the law....
That's a real good idea about Kanye---and I can think of few others I'd like to see floating in that water..

Why isn't Pamela Anderson out there trying to save them? She already has Hepatitis, anyway...

It may be cruel, it may be brutal, but if it's true, you can say it.

Well just who's dog did you think it was? And guess who is related?

LOL, I'm not sure...but I do know I wouldn't want to meet either of those three in a dark alley...

Shepherds, like most other larger breeds may succumb to hip dysplasia; however, the reputation Sheps have for this condition is largely the result of indiscriminate breeding. In the Post-WWII era, Sheps spiked in popularity in the US and a lot of breeders irresponsibly cranked out puppies just to make sales and a lot of genetically weak dogs were bred. A select few aficionados put principle ahead of profit, but a lot of Shepherd lines still remain prone to dysplasia as well as allergies and various skin conditions. The breed was reinvigorated after the fall of the Soviet empire when fresh blood lines became available in the west. My dog's sire was a Czech import, and checked in at a whopping 125 lbs (massive for a GSD). My boy checks in between 105-110 depending on time of year, how recently he ate, and how recently he got rid of what he ate....

... military helo crews were placing the dogs in the basket with the owners. Finally. I saw that too and couldn't help the comparison with the early air resues.

I understand that one. My boyhood dog was Rocky. The closest thing he ever got to a pedigree was when he chewed up my 7th grade dictionary and probably digested part of the "p's" somewhere along the line. Poor Rocky eventually died of cancer. I am in 60's, and I've just never been able to get close to another dog, even the ones that belonged to our children. I liked them, but never loved them as I did Rocky. Puts tears in my eyes just thinking about ole Rock.

I understand my fried.

I don't know your situation, but if you don't have a dog now, you ought to get one if at all possible. Dogs are probably the closest thing to "good" humans, as far as loyalty and friendship, without all the griping and complaining.

No doubt, there are other Rocky's out there, looking for a good buddy to spend his days with. Maybe even a sad Rocky that like you, lost it's beloved friend who happened to be human.

I'd like to donate, but I've seen so many different organizations mentioned on this thread that I'm a bit confused as to where I should send my money.

Can anyone recommend an organization involved in the actual rescue of these animals?

Are the lighter colored pets being rescued more quickly?

Of course. Institutional Racism.

Thanks. There is just something about dogs, their intelligence, friendship and loyalty. And I have always had a big old soft spot for German Shepard's. My family had one when I was just a kid. A dream come true for a kid. Many years later, we now have one in our family.

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, medicine, and shelter. We need help taking care of their pets, too.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you. Believe me, there are a lot of organizations who need your help.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I'm adding more every night. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas Tuesday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Stingray blogsite

By the way, the website from my last post contains a number of links to animal aid operations. Large numbers of pets and horses have been brought to Texas and we need your help!
