" . . . it was reported that they died after all of the nurses/caregivers evacuated without them!!"

If true, still very difficult to believe. If it was the same report I heard somebody must have stayed behind to nail the doors shut and jam wheelchairs up against them. They apparently sealed themselves in to keep the water out.

Unless the infirm left behind were able to do it.

This may be a different story then (can there actually be two?)

I was in the other room when the report was on the radio, about noon today, and I thought they said that the rescuers went to a nursing home that had been abandoned of caregivers. They were under the impression, I think, that it was totally evacuated, only to find the residents dead and the caregivers gone.

I heard they waited for buses that never showed up, and then drove out the ones that they thought had the best chance of survival.

The residents themselves tried to block the rising waters, after the (state-paid/medicare-paid) bureacrats/nurses/aides responsible for the trapped victims (er, patients) fled the rest home in fear of THEIR lives.
