Truly, I'm coming to grudgingly admire Nagin for not strangling this seriously demented woman. I'm beginning to think his inability to act was due to his well-founded fear of the control freak in Baton Rouge.
Is there NO law for removing a crazy person from office? The federal rules have to be rewritten to prevent such a situation ever again. If not, the federal government should just keep their help and our money from a disaster area until the local dictator has been removed.

I think I am inclined to agree with you.

I'm actually starting to cut Nagin some slack. Cleary the obstacle is "Governor" Blanco. She is so wound up with appearing "in control", first with clearly denying any recommendation from any Republican (President Bush recommending an immediate evacuation early on), to undercutting anyone who takes any initiative while she waffles to the next photo op (Jabbar Gibson had better stay in Texas, at least until Louisiana gets a new governor). Blanco is going beyond partisan pettiness, she is going against everyone else just to push her way, even if it leads to further disaster.

Bush can't win no matter what he does, had he asserted his power, he'd be called a Texan Cowboy.

Which is what he should have done, was lasso the idiots, put duck tape and go on about salvaging NO if that was even possible. Our President sure has alot of patience to deal with not only the crisis but with tom-dick and harry that has to put their two-cents worth.

Shades of Earl K Long! The last certified crazy Louisiana governor back in the 50's. His wife finally had him committed to Mandeville State Hospital. He actually fired the head doctor there, hired his own doctor who declared him sane whereupon he took up with stripper Blaze Starr. Just so you have a little history of Louisiana governors. Left out the one who is still in a Federal pen but that's another story. :o)

Here's a little Louisiana history. In 1960, the head of the state mental hospitals declared Governor Earl K. Long mentally incompetent, insane, or whatever. Governor Long just fired the doctor and continued making a fool of himself, especially with stripper Blaze Starr.
