Wash. man says he killed child rapists

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - A man turned himself in to authorities in the killing of two convicted child rapists, saying he picked the victims from a sheriff's Web site, police said.

Michael Anthony Mullen, 36, called 911 on Monday to claim responsibility for the killings, and officers who talked to him said he gave information that only the killer would know, according to a police news release. He was jailed for investigation of two counts of first-degree murder.

Hank Eisses, 49, and Victor Vasquez, 68, were found shot to death at their apartment Aug. 27. They were both classified as Level III sex offenders, considered the type most likely to reoffend. Sex offenders in Washington are required to register with local authorities, and the information is provided on the Web.

Mullen told authorities he targeted at least one of the two men after checking the county sheriff's Web site July 13, according to the police statement.

The bodies of Eisses and Vasquez were found by a roommate, also a sex offender. He said a man wearing a blue jumpsuit and a cap that said FBI on it came to their home, told them he was an FBI agent and said one of them was on a "hit list" on an Internet site, police said.

The roommate said he left while the "FBI" visitor was still there and found the bodies when he returned about four hours later.

Days after the killings, The Bellingham Herald received an unsigned letter claiming responsibility for the killings. Police notified convicted Level 3 sex offenders in the area as a precaution, but said the letter was vague and could be a hoax.

No. Nail him for premeditated murder in the 1st degree.

As much as emotion can make one want to excuse this man's actions, we can not.

You are the only one, so far, that has any common sense.

He must be prosecuted. To allow this is to allow a continuance of the lawlessness that went on in New Orleans.

The law is the law, and no man has a right to murder another.

Note: Murder is different than kill.

You had asked if the guy who committed premeditated murder of two people was a good guy or a bad guy.

The answer to that is relative to whether one agrees with what he did, or not. Some here feel that what he did was justified, while some do not.

Sorry, Tony.

We don't need no education...from you folks who jailed Tony Martin for protecting his home.

We have a serious problem here in Washington. Lots of communities are enacting serious zoning restrictions on convicted sex perverts because of the political disconnect of our electeds.

More pedophiles need to have a discussion with Saint Peter.

The only thing that bothers me about this situation is the possibility of the perpetrators being innocent and wrongly convicted. Knowing how hard it is to convict, however, I don't suppose that is the case.

Remember Wenatchee?

(I met Pastor Roberson at a Republican event some time after he was freed.)

No, he knew details that only the killer would know.

But he might still be a fanatical ACLU-type person who was willing to sacrifice a couple of hapless sex offenders (whom I feel zero sympathy for, btw) to his cause... In other words, just to advance his real agenda: which is to get the ball rolling on the repeal of Megan's Law.

Sorry, everyone, I just think there's something real fishy about this sudden confession. Doesn't make sense to me. WHY would you turn yourself in to be prosecuted just days after you apparently felt so strongly about the rightness of your cause that you were willing to murder someone over it? Sudden guilty conscience? Seems unlikely. Maybe this guy wants and needs the additional publicity. So that the rest of his story would be known. He WANTS us to know how he got the names off the internet (something we would never know unless he confessed), thanks to Megan's Law, etc. </Sherlock LibWhacker>

Even premeditation doesn't necessarily make a killing a murder.

The real tragedy is that a child rapist was breathing free air in the first place.

This kind of scum should ALWAYS get either death or life without parole on the first offense.

Come-on comparing the execution of child rapists to the others you list is like saying one would be justified to nail someone that called them "Codswallop". Grow-up.

Evil is not relative to anything. It's not a matter of opinion.

If the poster had said the murderer was a good guy, he would have been correct.

Maybe he got tired of always looking over his shoulder. I dunno, but I've read that kind of statement before.

This guy is a nutcase. He should go to jail, and if the state has capital punishment, he should be executed.

He will probably imperil the whole notification system by his action. Not a good outcome.

"A mandatory death penalty for anyone who rapes a child should be the absolute minimum..."

So raping a child is worse than killing the child?

The Samaritian was a person who helped, not murdered.

Gee..ya think ther ACLU will defend his natural
right to seek justice, while under the duress
of their precence in his "space"?...they obviously
intimidated him, and he felt harrassed by them.
He felt insuted and a second class citizen, when
the courts allowed the law breakers to affect the
public arena with their radical and dangerously
oppresive personal beliefs! LOL!

So a murderer can be a good guy, if he murders evil people...still sounds relative to me.

Vigilantism is no replacement for life sentences without the possibility of parole.

Agreed.

Even premeditation doesn't necessarily make a killing a murder.

But it does in this case.
