A year after six deer hunters were shot to death in a confrontation with a Hmong immigrant, jurors are being selected in a college town 300 miles to the south of this north woods community. Eyewitnesses and friends of the dead man portray the slayings as cold-blooded, while the defendant says he was shot at first and acted in self-defense after the hunters tormented him with profanity and racial insults.
Jury selection begins Thursday in Madison for the trial of Chai Soua Vang, a 36-year-old St. Paul, Minn., truck driver, National Guard veteran and father of six. He was arrested hours after the Nov. 21 shootings, which occurred during a confrontation on private property in the isolated Sawyer County woods.
Jury selection was moved to Dane County home of the state Capitol and the University of Wisconsin-Madison because of concern about pretrial publicity and possible racial animosity. The jurors will be bused to Hayward for testimony.

For those that don't have a lot of time to keep up with this.
Ping to you..
Shouldn't the media call him a mass murderer or do they consider all deer hunters murderers?
Hopefully the jury will reach a verdict ... and not remain hmung.
"It would take a fool to buy that."
Dane County (Madison) is full of 'em.
The city of Madizan is full of the country side still has some smart people in.
You sir, have been relived of jury duty for this case.
Prosecution questioning potential Jurors..." Are you from Madison...challenged for cause "
Serial killer...
First he killed one. Then he killed another, and then another, and another... Until six men lay dead.
I'm going to wait for the trial to decide if there's enough information to decide either way, for or against. But I'm not going to hold my breath.
Remember what Kruschev said when he visited Madison, "Get me the he## out of here... there are too many Commies."
As liberal as Milwaukee and Madison can be, they know which side their TOURISM bread is buttered on . . . hunting brings a LOT Of money into this state . . .
Alas, I fear that when all is said and done the fellow will be counted Hmong the guilty...
Lots of fools in Madison to pick a jury from. All they need is the Cap Times subscription list.

Vang the Hmong: just shooting the hunters no one else will shoot.

LOL!
(It would be even funnier if weren't so true!)
Not necessarily...The killer apparently was hunting on land rented by this hunting group and probably didn't know it...His story is that at least one of them shot at him first...Who knows???
When you're up against six to one, they are all armed and willing to shoot you, is it prudent to pick them off before they can surround you and bushwack you??? That's what the jury will hear...
I understand the hunters that lived weren't successful in corroborating their stories...Going to be interesting...
