Here are the four possibilities:
1. Edith Jones
2. Janice Rogers Brown
3. Emilio Garza
4. Edith Clement
;-)
You forgot one: Miguel Estrada.
And the winner is...Edith Clement. Not only is she a woman, she was runner-up last time and ... she is from New Orleans.
Not that my vote counts, but I hope Dubya picks Garza or Brown. Garza has a solid record as a states-rights advocate. JRB appears to have a strong libertarian streak in her rulings, plus the obvious EEO characteristics. It doesn't look like Luttig is on the short list (we need to defeat a few more Dem senators first), which is a shame because he is supposed to be quite conservative and extremely, extremely [intellectually] sharp. I could live with Jones and Clement, too. Another post said Clement would be the choice because she was a) runner up for O'Connor's slot and b) she is from N.O. I think the latter is too obvious and the MSM would make hay about "pandering" or something like that.
All the pundits have been wrong before. Remember, Roberts came out of nowhere.
Or David Fontanella...
