A couple of my relatives...ahem...have already rented trailers and gotten jobs. Seriously.
Another man here in Houston said that he had 40 people at his house. Some of them had already gotten jobs.
My prediction: Many of the skilled workers will stay at their new locations. Those will job skills in demand will be snapped up by new employers in their new states. When the refugee shelters are closed by the Red Cross the homeless and jobless that remain will be shipped back to New Orleans. The middle class of NO will drastically shrink, the gap between rich and poor will increase.
This just in......
2 local evacuees here in houston rescued some people from an apartment fire here today, even giving the victims their shoes,,,those 2 evacuees are staying in a hotel,,,
Many of the poor won't be going back either - see the last thread where we discussed how the NO welfare system makes it impossible to get off it - even if you do have skills, there's usually nothing in NO that pays enough to get you off welfare.
Forgot to add: Those that have any skills or willingness to work will readily find jobs will find employment (easily!) in Texas, and I think that will be the majority of them. The rest will get sent back to NO.
I don't think the rich will go back (except fot the Dem machine types), so that will change the makeup considerably.
According to a friend in the know...Many of the houses in NO were rental properties owned by a few...They recieved compensation from the government for those living in them at a rate much higher than the "pig sty" they were renting. They became quite rich, spending little if any on the property at the expense of government (us) and socially those in NO.......Looks like their fatted cow just dried up....Hope they don't qualify for a red cent.
