[shrug] I'm feeling charitable for a short time -- plus I can't find the Penn Jillette "STFU" animated gif...
Maybe you are being sarcastic. I'm not sure and my apologies if so.
They have two choices in this situation:
The water WILL NOT recede on its own. It has to be pumped out. They cannot save the ones still alive nor remove the bodies until the area is pumped out (the bodies also have to be removed from NO because they cannot create mass graves there). Leaving it the way it is for any length of time will create disease not just for the immediate area but for the entire south and even the rescuers -- who are from all parts of the country.
Or... they could worry about the environmental impact of pumping that goop -- not water but goop -- into the lake and allow every sort of deadly disease to spread in New Orleans. Dysentery is only the first and mildest disease that will spread.
There are only two choices and neither is good but one is worse than the other.
Link to a VERY helpful post on dealing with "those less informed".
Someone on another thread said that, after the power went, the minimal light provided by the emergency generators (most of them provide only minimal light) wasn't enough for pictures.
If you already had it open on your computer, go to your history button and look through there till you recognize it.
Sorry, I don't have the link though.
But search through your history.
Let us know if you still have questions.
Probably the reason I can't find it in the searches is that I'm not describing the link very well.
It is a Webhosting company that is still up and running in NOLA. They have 55 employees, and have a camera up on the roof, out the window, in their office... etc. They have been taking pictures and keeping a BLOG going of all that has happened to them during this mess.
Some of the things discussed were getting diesel for the generators to keep their 0C3s up and running; watching and experiencing the lawlessness of the city; talking to the police;... etc.
Does this ring a bell with anyone, and if so, do you have the link? Please?
He'll have a lot of pings later!
I never thought about that. My bad? You're absolutely right, though. The Southern ladies get dressed up for church. In fact the Los Angeles Times ran a nice feature about custom hat stores in South Central, with pictures. My mom wore hats to church. We're Catholic, and it's not too common anymore. Hmm, that's another thing to think about. I wonder if some of these hat stores could donate some hats for them? This would be a terrific morale booster. How about the men? Do they get dressed up for church? Men's suits are pretty darn expensive, though : (
I'm tracking down the lady here who is taking material donations. If she has time to talk, I want to ask her what is being donated and what isn't being donated. Like a gazillion boxes of Pampers, but no Depends. We can't forget about the handicapped and elderly.
Once again, thank you so much for your time and effort on these threads.
I did that already and for some reason, it's not there. I clicked all the non-descriptive links in case the page had a crummy title (which would be unusual for a Webhosting company.) I'm at a total loss as to what happened to it.
I've heard of them but I never checked out the link. Sorry. I do believe the blog you mentioned and about 11 survivors were all holed up in the Bell South building. They actually had food, water, power and air throughout this thing.
Sure, if 'in place' means something other than in the places they were needed.
Thank you so much, mhking!
They would be far better off pumping it out and down the Mississippi than into the lake. Right now those pumps won't work, they have to be dried out first. A hundred smaller pumps would be better than no pumps.
No I was not being sarcastic, I have observed the method and minds of liberals.
Fox: Awaiting NO police news conference.
Thanks to you as well.
I saw a pic of Sean bailing it out with a dixie cup! I'm sure you've seen it by now ;-)
Hmm, strange. Well, I've got no other suggestions.
Maybe someone else will be able to post a link for what you lost.
