U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

" The plan for the New Orleans officials was "pray the storm misses us like Ivan." "

And that's really about the size of it. Nagin had a PLAN, which he borrowed from Kerry.

I sent him an email earlier...after watching his coverage for a few mintues, when he agreed that the President has a real problem (a deserved one by his account) becuase of the large black population that was "ignored" by the Feds. Joe has become a real media prostitute; he no longer pays any attention to the truth or fact. I have to assume that being a liar and a prostitute are prerequesites for employment by nbc/msnbc (and all the other old media as well).

I was intrigued by the New York Daily News article posted at this link:

http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/343324p-292991c.html

However, the sidebar provides this information about the author:

"Errol Louis was born in Harlem, raised in New Rochelle and lives in Crown Heights, Brooklyn with his wife, Juanita Scarlett. He is the son of a retired NYPD inspector and formerly served as associate editor of The New York Sun. He has taught college, co-founded an inner-city community credit union, run for City Council and was once named by New York Magazine as one of 10 New Yorkers making a difference 'with energy, vision and independent thinking.' He holds degrees from Harvard, Yale and Brooklyn Law School."

Dynamite urban credentials, no doubt about it, but they don't indicate how much time has the author actually spent in New Orleans? Take it from this Yankee, nothing prepares you for Louisiana until you come here and experience it for yourself.

Is September a "sweeps month"?

No, it's November. But I was just thinking that "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" should have enough eposides for the next 10 years in New Orleans alone!

I saw that too! He's thrilled Travolta and Oprah are coming and oh yeah, the President. Maybe Oprah can give them all cars that she get donated to her and Travolta can try to sign up some new Scientology converts.

I just returned from the Grand Prix of Mosport, where the series and a lot of the teams are contributing to the Salvation Army and collectors from the Sally Ann were on the grounds collecting from the generous Canadian fans. Dave Maraj, who owns ADT Champion Racing and large Champion Porsche and Champion Audi dealerships in Florida, is donating $100,000 worth of new clothing and personal care items plus whatever he can collect in his dealership in the time it takes his transporter to return to Pompano Beach from Canada; then he will have it loaded up and the team driver will take it to Lafayette LA where the sister of an employee who lived there and whose town is wiped out will have charge of distribution. He said that he was giving clothing (NEW clothing) because he felt that people who had been living in the same clothing for ten days needed tangible proof that life would get better. Flying Lizard Motorsports donated their prize money to the hurricane reiief, and so did other teams. Everyone wants to help. It's wonderful to see.

The good news is that this week, the conservative radio talk show hosts across the country will start getting the truth out there. They are the "ace in the hole."

Uh, guys....YOU CONGRESSCRITTERS are responsible for the spending and passing of how the money is spent...the POTUS just suggests and signs or doesn't...and what is the biggest complaint about his POTUS.???

He has NEVER vetoed a spending bill!!!

Did a google search on D-MORT which was mentioned on CNN about recovering bodies. Interesting how FEMA mentioned just 59 confirmed dead in New Orleans. According to the blog talk among the disaster folks death toll more like 60,000+ expected. Also mentioned being in the toxic water for more than 5 days embalming won't be neccessary. So as the weeks continue most likely we will not hear about this but good will stores like they are doing tonight.

OK, I thought I was nuts but I just confirmed it with my husband and our houseguest. We live in Eastern Kansas. I grew up in Texas and I know what the gulf smells like. I smell the gulf here once or twice a year depending on the wind and the weather and tonight, I smell Katrina. It's like the gulf only wet wood, and an almost rotten smell. It's not a smell I've ever smelled here. Our houseguest is from Switzerland. He says that they get sand from the Sahara once in a while so he believes me. So if you live in the midwest, go outside and think about it. Only a barbwire fence between here and there.

there is still a long way to go on the political side. I wish tomorrow wasn't a holiday so that Rush and the other talk radio titans could start the counter-attack - that will have to wait until Tuesday now.

You are an outstanding person for keeping all of htese threads going.

I have been appalled at some of the behavior of people on various other blogs and forums I occassionally participate on/in - the complete and utter total blame being laid upon the federal government, while saying the locals are not responsible for any problems has been horrendous.

I was thinking the same thing when Joe said 4-5 years ago this was known...

First of all, this was known LONG before President Bush was elected in 2000.

Second, IF it had been funded in 2001, Bush's first year, like you said---they wouldn't have even started on the building part of it yet!!! sheesh!

Joe knows all of this, and he is still acting like an hysterical old woman....and I can say that because I am a woman...
