Chief Justice Rehnquist Dies at His Home

Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist died Saturday evening of cancer, ending a remarkable 33-year tenure on the Supreme Court and creating a rare second vacancy on the nation's highest court.

Rehnquist, 80, was surrounded by his three children when he died at his home in suburban Arlington.

"The Chief Justice battled thyroid cancer since being diagnosed last October and continued to perform his duties on the court until a precipitous decline in his health the last couple of days," said court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg.

Yes, agreed.

I believe he hung on to help keep peace so long as possible until Roberts was confirmed. He was a good man and a Great Justice. Thank you, sir, for your service.

If a certain group of Senators engage in a filibuster, they should be picketed by protesters carrying signs that say "No Justices, No Peace!"

Mercifully, they're cowards, but the downside of that is that they'll send in guys (and they WILL be guys) who are in their 40s with very little track record. Following the fear-based conservative M.O., they'll force both of the votes through as if Chicken Little and his falling sky were about to hit any moment.
