Big power plays are more important to those inept, corrupt politicians than the lives of their own citizens.

I know Arkansas has had some of the most corrupt politicians over the years but Louisiana ranks right up there with us!

I don't feel the need to say who gets how much blame. We can do that later.

You've made that statement on the wrong board, try and get that posted on DU.

You're also confusing response with laying blame.

The left has hired airplanes to fly banners around the Houston Astrodome towing "Blame Bush" banners so they appear on national TV, and you want us to sit politely and wait? Well, by God, I've waited 30 years to respond to those bastards. Is that long enough? How much 'wait until later' do you think is appropriate when they are trying to destroy this presidency?

We would be utter fools not to respond at once to the hurricane of criticism coming from the left. That is what THIS thread is all about, and I for one am grateful for the talent FR has on board.

Hurricane Katrina Jogs West; Could Threaten Mississippi, Louisiana

Governor Kathleen Blanco issued a state of emergency in Louisiana at 5pm Friday, as state leaders continued to track the path of Hurricane Katrina. "The declaration of a state of emergency is in anticipation of possible damage from Hurricane Katrina should she strike Louisiana," said Deputy Press Secretary Roderick Hawkins. Hawkins said the state of emergency declaration places the Louisiana National Guard on standby. "It puts us on standby just in case we need to mobilize the national guard," Hawkins said. "We are in the strike zone," Governor Blanco said during a late afternoon live interview on CNN. Hawkins said the governor is holding a conference call among state agencies starting at 5pm Friday. He said decisions about possible evacuations will likely be made during that conference call. The governor's office said all state agencies will be fully operational by Saturday morning.

Upon further reflection, I agree that "friday" meant Sept 2. Its hard to believe that a reporter would refer to a date two fridays ago as simply "Friday". A "Friday" without a qualifier or other identifier to me, would mean either the following Friday, or the one that just passed.

So its NOT that HUGE of a deal, but the rest of the timeline shows that things are not as reported by the MSM.

That's the first graphic on NHC official track. If you cycle through the numbers - 01.AL1205W.GIF - change, the 01 to 02, 03, etc.. You can get them all.

I'll have to look for model tracks, they must be somewhere.

I have a few saved:

The left and their PR machine in NY have stated publicly and to the entire WORLD, since the DAY of the hurricane that the President of the United States caused the hurricane by not signing Kyoto, that the President of the United States was casually vacationing, sunbathing, playing golf, playing the guitar, and ignoring the deaths of Black Americans because he is a racist.

There is a story to tell, and its that this constant slander and hate mongering by the left is despicable, and damages our country, and alot of good people that work hard.

Will people please get this through their heads - THERE IS NO COMPARISON BETWEEN THIS MASSIVE DISASTER AND 9/11!

The disaster area in 9/11 was measured in city blocks, the disaster in Katrina is roughly the size of Great Britain.
The disaster area in 9/11 was surrounded by a near fully functioning major city with easily accessable resources that were untouched by the disaster. NYC was surrounded by cities that were untouched with resources that could be mobilized and sent immediately. 9/11 was a tragedy, but it dwarfs in comparison to this disaster. The UN has said in scope this is THE biggest international natural disaster ever.

Please open your minds and digest the facts. This is bigger than the tsunamis. In the tsunamis the waves came on shore and then washed out. Here a hurricane came on shore the waves washed in and the hurricane kept churning on with mass destruction in it's path long past exiting New Orleans.

You cannot even count the first day as a feasable day for FEMA response to have begun because there was a freaking hurricane passing through the city all day!

Your paraphase of the President's statement is wrong. He said the response was good, but the results were not acceptable. FEMA could have everything there, but if the city officials and state officials won't coordinate with them and help them make plans, then they can't do anything. FEMA is there to ASSIST the state and local relief effort, to HELP them execute their disaster plans. They are not in freaking control of it.

The levees were breached very early in the morning on Tuesday.

Actually, due to the historic storm surge, the eastern Parish of New Orleans was first flooded Monday night. At least we learned that in a later report from eyewitnesses (I believe it was from one of the top religious leaders who stayed in the Parish area). New Orleans City proper started flooding early Tuesday as water levels in the levees continued to rise. In my mind you might as well assume that the Lake Ponchatrain Levees overflowed. They would of eventually anyway if that new top section had held because water was probably still rising.

One more thing...

It would be interesting to contrast/compare the federal & state response to 9/11 with the LA Katrina response.

"The Federal response in force was ......... much slower than on 9/11."

Measured how? By how long it took to get 200 Blackhawks over WTC and rescue 10,000 people by Skyhook? By how long it took to get TSA in the Airports (7 months) or secured cockpits? (2 years) or to overun Tora Bora?

IIRC, apart from a handful at the Pentagon, there was not a singer soul rescued by Federal "effort" in the 9/11 attack, so how cab you compare?

I think it was Friday the 26th...because my friends son Josh w/ the 87th or 82nd Airborne stationed at Ft Bragg NC
recieved deployment orders to New Orlens thursday 9-1. If these talks were Friday the 2nd we would still not see the army..
article says it would "look like the feds were declaring
Martial law"..and the gov. turned it down on a Friday. But troops were there this friday..Sept 2. I might have fuzzy logic.but it seems to me it would have to be before the storm .Sorry @ rambling!

It is disgusting what mayor, governor and certain congressmen have been doing. And blaming human actions within Bush43's administration for this hurricane is beyond ignorant - it's dishonest. They way the democrats are playing the race card is sick. So the last thing I would suggest would be to not tell our story.

WH PR staff is one of the weakest links in this administration, and has been since Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, 2001.

Thats the truth. And why I mentioned Karl Rove
should have you time line and backhoe's thread of key
posts and info.
The more the libs, MSM, etc are out there with their lies,
the general public eat it up because they are not hearing
the truth in cat, dog, mouse language.

I just saw the news about our late Supreme Court Justice. Really sad.

May God comfort his family and he rest in peace.

Thanks, will pull up the NHC ones. Yeah, if you can find the earlier models on Friday, that would be a gold mine.

Ping for must reading.

Don't expect the "journalists" in the LameStream Media to connect the dots, though. Most are kids with no concept of stringing together a coherent series of thoughts for more than a 30-second read.

The ones who are capable of seeing the truth are usually leftist bigots who are committed to seeing any conservative administration attacked incessantly.

Pretty good pattern of the forecast drifting west:

4pm central, Friday 8/26, note the big westward movement:
