Qatar is what socialism can be like when the government has $$$ and doesn't need to rely on the collective production of its citizens.
Only about 20% of the population is Qatari; the rest are imigrants on work visas. They control and process incoming workers very carefully.
I was there on a work residency visa and enjoyed it very much.

Got it; thanks!
I'll go with Catholic Charities. I visited ST Louis Cathedral in NO a few years ago. They will know who is in need.

Thank you to the people of Qatar. It is respectfully accepted by me.
to those that complain about al Jazeera? We have government sponsered propaganda called PBS. We also have stations that may as well be financially supported by the government since they carry the Dems water. The argument isn't persuasive.

Qatar's gift of 100K isn't nearly as political as Al Gore showing up this afternoon at Louis Armstrong Airport...and I'll bet he didn't bring anything except a news crew to capture his sound bites..

So I guess the $ 196 of 200 million so far (this is probably without Qatar, etc and their recent announcement of $ 100 million) will not really be going to help the poor souls we continue to watch on TV (or in my case, cannot watch any longer; it is way too sad to see their suffering for any length of time)...

THEY don't even say it the same way all the time....but on their state sponsored English radio broadcasts KAT-Tar is the most common. Cutter was popularized by too-smart-for-their-own-good reporters who thought that the CIA web site was correct.
Sorry, I'll go with what the locals say. And like I said, they aren't even always uniform.

A US-based risk management company that specializes in disaster recovery said that the damage caused by the storm in Louisiana and Mississippi is likely to surpass 100 billion dollars.
Just think: Bill Gates alone could rebuild the area with his assests. He could then lay claim to the whole area and manage it and call himself president of "Katrinaland".

At first I though this was a joke. No doubt, I first expected this to be a satire like The Onion or something.

No Cutter, No Gutter.
KAT-tur, with a kind of little twist on the ending r, at least my take on an Egyptian friend's pronunciation.
