***For some odd reason, nobody in Louisiana trusts anyone in state or local government there.***

Am I the only one seeing this??

Louisiana is only going to report "Storm Deaths"?

Not all Deaths and CRIME DEATHS??

Someone is ALREADY starting to spin Numbers in louisiana!

Under the circumstances could they be expected to say otherwise? I dont know either way, hope its all calm.

No, they couldn't. larger point being that it is unnecessarily risky to believe what one hears, instead thinking a bit independently, staying alert, and acting acordingly. THe government has been known to tell a white lie or two, and the media has been known to lie as well - not always white lies.

Prayers are still going up for your family. I know you all have a rough road ahead. It's a crying shame that some idiots are painting the entire police force with a broad brush. Anyone with a brain knows they weren't all looting and deserting their posts. I haven't noticed the media showing us any cops doing their jobs, but I'm not naive enough to believe they weren't. Some folks (even here) are still drinking the Kool-Aid served up by MSM.

Death totals being discussed now. The room is very quiet.

They will try to determine who drowned, who died of health problems, and who was murdered.

59 bodies in possession now.

I'm concerned about what's going to happen when people realize we're going to lose convention business, and our welfare queens and kings are going to have to compete with the newcomers for largesse.

I know it won't come true, but I wish the media would hold off on reporting the number of deaths until later - maybe two or three weeks from now. THey're gonna treat it like an election, with updated counts, etc. and that just makes me sick.

The rescue copters are working in pairs and much of the rescue footage you see is shot from them. One does the work, the other one is either a backup in case something goes wrong - or it's loaded with Marines and door gunners in case someone shoots at them.

The few newscopters that are up are *very* restricted as to fuel and are almost always of the Jetranger class without winches - short of landing on a house, they can't pick anyone up anyway. That said, in some of the news footage, I've seen private Jetrangers (and larger) doing exactly that and participating in the airlifts.

"Authorities assert that any increase is just rumors, and to just exercise normal care. Everything is under control."

Hibernia bank was on lockdown last week. You could only use the drivethru lanes, not the lobby. That is normal, right? /s

That pic is worth more than a thousand words. That's why I doubt most Americans will see it. It's not about race, but humanity. Wish I could send them some See's Candy, but it would melt : (

They spent a bunch of time showing him locally the past couple of days. He may have done his on location photo-op and returned to more fancy digs.

Watching the plane with refuges landing in Lubbock. They are treating them as if it is all the looters on the plane, which may not be a bad idea. Drug-sniffing dogs and a massive (and I mean massive) presence of local, state and federal LEO. Local channel says have 30 Lubbock police vehicles alone and they came with more than one officer. The only thing I can think of is there were a disturbance on one of the planes and they are guarding against more problems.

Exactly - they're all still coming here, but once they're cared for, they must be moved on to where they can live on a more or less permanent basis. We're not turning anyone away.

So much for "there are only 100,000 people left in New Orleans and the surrounding area." Damn the Louisiana government that let this happen.

I think maybe some walked out in tears because they were overcome with emotion. It's a God thing maybe.

Well said Cboldt, they will be treated as another number to the tally instead of an individual life.

Oprah's coming to New Orleans? Interesting, because for the past several days I've been asking myself where is her famous "Oprah's Wildest Dreams Bus" -- anyone know whether she offered this vehicle to help with the evacuation?

In the update you posted about Hardy Jackson, there was a Wiki link to a photograph of his wife Tonette but it didn't work. Can you recheck your source and see if there's actually a way to see her photo? I gathered from the article that her body still hadn't been located by the time Hardy was offered shelter in Atlanta. By posting her photo, maybe it can be determined which morgue she actually went to, and give this heartbroken man some closure.

I am starting to think that an annexation is not a bad idea. If there can be a West Virginia, why not an East Texas? Or the Louisiana counties?
Since the media is calling this ReconstructionII, why not do a little re-districting now? Strike while the iron is hot, so to speak.

Well, there's that, but there's also the not-so-subtle message of "Welcome to Texas, we don't put up with any foolishness like the LA authorities do. If you are a law abiding citizen, we'll get along just fine. If you aren't, well, look around you. Find somewhere else to misbehave because doing *anything* like that here will get you a *really* nasty surprise."

A *heavy* police presence has been present (no pun intended) at every refugee disembarkation point in Texas. You should see the one at Big Town Mall in Mesquite. The only thing that's missing is the local police APC contingent and choppers flying overhead.
