Louisiana did not reach out to a multi-state mutual aid compact for assistance until Wednesday, three state and federal officials said. As of Saturday, Blanco still had not declared a state of emergency, the senior Bush official said.
My bad. I have a bad habit of not following links.
I've read it twice, cajungirl, and I'm not clear on that. My sense is last Friday since they are talking about evacuation of New Orleans, although of course, those efforts are still underway.
I know you are not a dude. Just a little levity.
The pres does not appoint chief justices. The SC selects the CJ.
Ah, no.
Very good info - and tomorrow's news today. Way cool...
People were talking about the levee in a Cat 5 storm in 1965 after Betsy. I was there, I went to the disaster meetings, I read and talked about it.
40 years at least they have known this, 40 years!!!!
LOL - you're going to have to cough up a source reference for that one.
I've been listening but I haven't made heads or tails out of that med talk.
U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters: Rescue delay shows "class division"
Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005 8:00 p.m.
U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California, arrived in Baton Rouge on Saturday with one message to President Bush and federal rescue agencies:
"Get it done," Waters said. "I thought I'd seen a lot. Don't forget, I'm from Los Angeles," where there has been a documented history of rioting. "But nothing like this. To see dead bodies on the street just unnerves me."
Waters said she came in response to the vast scope of the catastrophe, and was flanked by her friend State Sen. Cleo Fields, D-Baton Rouge. At about 4 p.m. on Saturday, Waters said she was leaving to ride a bus with evacuees from New Orleans. "To give them water, to give them comfort," she said at the Emergency Operations Center in Baton Rouge.
Waters said the delay in rescuing the stranded masses of people in the New Orleans region shows "a class division."
"There are a lot of naïve people," Waters said. "This is America. This should be illuminating about what we need in terms of dealing with poverty."
The poorest of the poor make up so many of the people stranded in New Orleans and the outlying areas, she added. "The United States has just been seen in a light that many people in the world never thought they'd see."
The pres appoints the CJ I do believe.
You are correct. There was a change when state legislatures no longer appointed senators, and senators became elected "at large".
I will go sit in the corner until I can figure this out.
They are the voters who elected Maxine.
**Fema freaked as well, but who ever had to deal with an emergency at this scale?**
FEMA has PLENTY to answer for, but responsibilty for this nightmare isn't IT!!!
She needs a sock in it.
Everyone on earth knows the poor finish last in any kind of emergency. They lack resources to get out, some lack adaptablity to get out, some don't listen, some are too burdened to get out.
Everywhere, every culture, every country, every damn place on earth it happens. And it isn't racism. It is the reality of life here on earth.
And they made a cost analysis decision to prepare for a betsy strength storm. And not to find ways to evacuate the population. And this is the result.
Susan is probably drunk again like on election night 2004. The libs have been very "out there" in the last few days with their hateful demented rhetoric. I believe that the Hurricane tragedy has maybe kept snippets from the News about the health of the CJ. The libs behavior tell me they had a heads up. That commercial ad for John Roberts is very clear and effective.
I lost my connection.
Went back through today's history and can't seem to get the link to work.
Do you remember where the original link is?
Thanks!
We need to find the tactical channel.
