Oh, imagine that...Tancredo on immigration. One issue candidate. He stands no chance. Dont waste our time with Tancredo's crap

He's the head of the congressional panel on immigration. For gosh sakes, why wouldn't he be concerned? He has been slapped around by the open borders Republicans, including the President and I don't blame him for wanting a fight.

The Republicans have fallen from being the party of the future to the party of the destruction of the USA, through low wages and massive illegal immigration.

Anyone who denies this is either stupid or a business person who wants to hire slave labor and feel good about it.

NO will be in session as long as the Congress is in session. It will take two months to get NO relief bills through committees at least and they won't go for final signoff until the end of the session. Then it is campaign time.

I could be wrong about this, but I have a hard time imagining that this is going to be the dominant news item for the public, even if it's talked about alot in the halls of Congress. Other news is still going to happen, and all the other concerns that have been raging before will continue to rage again. New Orleans simply will not be something that most voters outside of Louisiana are going to consider their top issue.

It would be a plus for all involved to get over the blame-placing phase and onto the city rebuilding theme

What would really be a plus would be for the federal government to let the state, city, private charity, investors, and regular citizens take over, instead of constantly trying to make everything a federal issue.

"It was the same thing a hundred years ago."

We are indebted to you for the history lesson, but that was then--this is now.

"Anti illegal emigration has never been a winning issue."

Yet.

"In the minds of the Buchananites/Tancredoites, Yes."

Perhaps, but mostly in the positions of loyal American conservatives. That would exclude you, of course, and your co-quislings.

By that I mean that Congress will be in session and the MSM will be sticking cameras in the faces of every Congresscritter that slows down for a minute, and Congress will be working on NO relief and associated issues for quite a while. Something else might come up, immigration being an ongoing issue that might have otherwise become the major issue, but with this disaster everything else is going to be also-rans.

You may (for the sake of the present argument) be right that Congressmen will get a black eye if they're perceived as being less than fully committed to rebuilding New Orleans, but if that's the case, all they'd have to do to stay safe is vote the way they're expected to. There will still be other issues that will be of prime importance to a great many voters, and I can guarantee you, no Congressman will get bad PR for speaking too much on those other issues instead of talking about New Orleans.

Sorry, but Bush has had five years already to do something about illegals, and the fact that "they aren't going anywhere" is precisely the problem.

Do you think that Bush will immediately tackle the issue now, right this very moment, considering the fact that an entire city and coastal communities has been wiped out like Pompeii?

The problem with Bush is that he's been "tackling" the issue throughout his whole presidency, just in the wrong direction. His constant kissing up to Vincent Fox, his slandering of the Minutemen as "vigilantes", his pushing for an amnesty program - these things would make mere inertia seem welcome.

What could Tancredo do in the gulf besides be yet another politician mugging for the camera?

And he's not mugging for the cameras now? Besides, who's listening when people are dying throughout the Gulf? He could ask Coloradoans and businesses to donate their time, equipment and money into relief efforts, for starters. Or make a public statement defending the "Bush is to blame" lies from the MSM.

I'm glad he's remaining focused on illegal immigration.

People know what Tancredo's stance on immigration is. I support him 100% and have been one of his most vocal supporters. He doesn't have to be like Ellen DeGeneres reminding the world every 5 seconds that she's a lesbian.

Maybe if Bush were to start defending himself he'd find more people willing to help him out. People tend to get burnout from constantly defending someone who won't lift a finger to defend himself.

"Example 1. Article 6 of the USA Constitution states that any treaty made by the USA is the 'supreme law of the land.' Congressmen are sworn to uphold the constitution"

And so is the President!

U.S. Constitution: Article IV Section 4.
..and shall protect each of them against Invasion.

I'm a Tancredo supporter but I think he should take a breather from immigration and help the President with relief efforts in the Gulf. Plenty of time to deal with illegals, they aren't going anywhere, after all.

Bush just rounded up a bunch of the Border Patrol on the southern border and sent them to NO...We are more wide open to terrorists right now than we have ever been...I believe we have room for both positions...

If we pass Tancredo's bill the companies will just move to Mexico.. It is not illegal to hire Mexicans in Mexico.

Or Congress could increase the number of legal immigrants that we let into the United States. It is not illegal for American companies to hire Mexican citizens who are in the United States legally.

It was the same thing a hundred years ago. American companies wanted cheap labor so we had huge numbers emigrating from Europe.

The anti emigration people got strict laws passes that required every emigrant to have emigration papers signed by their home government and possess a birth certificate. The law was simple.. Arrive at Ellis Island WITH OUT PAPERS and they woulc be sent back to their native land.

Huge numbers of Italians came to the USA. There was just one little problem. They could only be let into our nation illegally. You see most of them came with out any emigration papers or even a birth certificate. The only way we knew they were Italians was they spoke the language like a native.

We followed the law and turned them back right? NO WE LET THEM IN .... Americans who did not want them let in gave them a derogatory name.. They called them WOPs... Which is shorthand for illegal emigrant. They were let in with out legal emigration papers. They were... With Out Papers or WOPs.

But the Italians were let in only after they were processed through Ellis Island by United States immigration officials. This processing included determining the immigrant's name, general health, job skills, financial resources, and education level. Illegal aliens who sneak into the United States today aren't processed or checked for anything.

COEXERJ145 is a HARRY BROWNE sock puppet.

They have the exact same position on immigration.

If you want to be part of the 0.5% crowd, hop on the Browne/COEXERJ145 open borders lunacy. Those who deny COEXERJ145 is Browne's puppet are either stupid or Browne puppets themselves.

I agree---who wouldn't?---that the disaster in the Gulf States needs immediate attention. It's going to be getting most of our attention here in America for weeks if not months, and we'll all feel its effects.

Another point though is, just as we had a storm of wind and water that came into our borders five days ago that we couldn't ignore, we've had for as long as Bush has been President a storm of illegal immigrants coming into our borders too, costing taxpayers much more each year than Katrina is going to cost at one go, and more and more American citizens are discovering that they simply can't ignore its effects (well, except one apparently...). The effects of the latter storm are more pernicious and more lasting than the first, bad as it is, and the clean-up from its devastation is going to be longer and more costly. Believe me.
