PARIS, Sept. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- French Foreign Ministry announced Thursday that France is to send aid and troops to US Gulf coast area hit by Hurricane Katrina, one of the most devastating storms in the country's history.

"Our operational humanitarian aid group is going to meet to study the civilian and military means that France could make available from French regions and the French West Indies," said French Foreign Ministry's spokesman, Denis Simmoneau.

"From our crisis unit, which is going to Baton Rouge from Lafayette, we are following the situation of the French people we know about," said the spokesman.

French President Jacques Chirac sent a letter on Wednesday to his American counterpart George W. Bush, to express his "heart felt emotion" at the ravages of Hurricane Katrina, which is believed tohave killed at least hundreds of people and destroyed billions of dollars worth of property in the southwest United States.

Tony Blair made a statement yesterday or the day before.

Maybe they'll send someone with some brains and common sense about how to handle a disaster because ONE thing is for SURE...the local, state and federal government has NO clue what they are doing. This after we have spent BILLIONS of dollars on HOMELAND SECURITY. What a scam that is. WHERE has all that money gone? These cities were supposed to have plans in all cases of emergency. Looks like to me like New Orleans took the money but NEVER bothered to follow through with making plans!! I, as an American, am totally disgusted that these people haven't even been put in a tent city that we would have had up by now if this were a foreign country. What does this tell our enemy? Come on in...we have NO protection! It's time to get rid of all the elected officials, both dems and repugs and start over. It will take a while but it's got to be done. These people are so comfortable with their large salaries and pensions that they really don't care about their constituents, the stupid taxpayer. I AM PISSED and I don't care who knows it or what anybody thinks....(Now I'll take a breath!)
God bless those poor people who have been lied to day after day in the richest country in the world.
