Just now back online, can you paint me a quick broad overview?

I think that covers most of the stuff...

"All I heard last year after the presidential election was the MSM saying "The President should reach out to Democrats."

Reminds me of all I heard before the last major hurricane hit Florida. All I heard was "This will be a true test of Jeb Bush's leadership". Now all I'm hearing is "This is a test of George Bush's leadership". Of course, if everything had been going swimmingly, I'm sure the Governor and Mayor would be getting full credit.

Errr...WHAT state government? The response has been a debacle from day one, and any plan to evacuate via rail, barge, bus, etc. should have been in place long before this storm blew in. They were not,and immediately someone else should be blamed. Truth is, the state is the one who dropped the ball here, and as long as crybabies and lawyers run the show, we are in BIG trouble.

The result of this may result in liability reform, as you say, but I am pessimistically doubtful that Washington has the spine for it. The Dems will spin it hard for political gain, and the Republicans, because of the race issue, will not have the fortitude to fight the issue for the common good. We are seeing what will ever happen if we have a nuclear attack or major earthquake now - NOBODY can help you. Support the 2nd amendment, be prepared to live for at least a month at home, and pray that the entire health / financial / social structure of the country makes it though this crisis. My feeling is that we could see huge riots in our cities as these problems have political gasoline poured on them....

Geraldo is in NO!!!!

LOL! You know... he's cheesy, over dramatic and pompous. But the guy's timing is impeccable.

After those remaining in NOLA voluntarily are evacutated, IMHO you will have several thousand hard core thugs, criminals,a nd druggies who will stay, and will have to be rooted out house-to-house..You will soon see urban combat in NO

I think the events you describe will come to pass, and I hope the media has the good sense to move onto a different aspect of the unfolding relocation and handling of the people of NOLA. The dregs aren't worth the airtime.

Most of them use something similar to what Texas did to combat fraud - their benefits are loaded on a card similar to an ATM Debit card, and it's dispensed that way - some of it can only be used to buy food, some of it appears in the form of cash from an ATM. Not only does it combat fraud, it's less embarassing than having to drag out the very obvious food stamps.

LA has already said that this month's "benefits" have already been credited to the cards.

This is going to tear this country all to pieces. And a million or more people are homeless and destitute and wandering, most in a state of shock.

I just hung up on my mother for that reason. They are die hard libs and went on 5 minute Bush bash. He should have known, he's not smart like Clinton, he's a lousy leader..blah blah..I screamed at her and said what do you want him to do..Be like Bewitched, cross his arms wiggle his nose and boom everything is just fine? AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

Jesse Jackson supposedly in NOLA, but he hasn't found a camera yet.

Could that be because Fox News isn't giving him the time of day? :-)

Streaming update:
Information coming directly from the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina is something that people really are looking for. In addition to the news networks (CNN, FNC, MSNBC), local resources are not only available, but are streaming on the web.
WWL-TV New Orleans (via WFAA Dallas) - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. Yahoo has also provided a relay.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

New Orleans Police Department & National Guard Operations: Several volunteers are pitching in to help relay these "scanner broadcasts." You can now listen for extended periods of time. The service now also includes broadcasts from the National Guard operating in southern Louisiana.

(capacity 300 listeners) http://205.252.89.181:8000/live.m3u
(capacity 250 listeners) http://216.22.26.45:8002/listen.pls
(capacity 160 listeners) http://66.255.148.51:8000/listen.pls
(capacity 100 listeners) http://ve3nsv.no-ip.org:8000/louisiana.m3u
(capacity 20 listeners) http://joem.scare.org:8025/
(unknown capacity) http://radio.scannerbuff.net:8008/hurricane.m3u
(unknown capacity) http://www.radioreference.com:8080/lspbtr.m3u
Gulf Coast ARES Emergency Network: These are amateur radio operators providing assistance and coordination via high frequency (shortwave) links. The audio feed for this will be subject to interference and sound anomalies due to the transmission mode and frequency.

I also support Samaritan's Purse along with the Salvation Army.

I came in partway into the interview, but if I understood correctly Franklin Graham (of Samaritan's Purse) was telling Hannity & Colmes last night how important it was for the people of New Orleans to go to work themselves rebuilding their city (when the time is right). I love that the organization combines charity with helping people help themselves and develop a work ethic if needed.

If his timing was impeccable, he would've been on that floodwall as it failed (dreaming that it would be on the breach itself).
