I got confirmation that the 600 MPs are being sent to the convention center. Reports are that there are 15,000 people stranded there, so I'm not surprised it will take that in force to secure the area for aid and evacuation.
The press will make him (Mayor) a hero, wait and see.
LOL, oops, yes indeed.
Yep
There. Welcome to FR :)
You forgot to tell him to go back to DU. :)
Ok.
You're a racist nazi.
[I dub thee offically an old timer]
Damn- I wonder what they mean when they say "southeast" United States.
Georgia?
They better get that chiller into Bellsouth.
What the heck are they talking about on FOX? That doesn't sound right about the BellSouth building. One switching station shouldn't know down the whole system. That doesn't make sense to me. Can some telecom Freepers help me out with his?
I'll become angry later with those people who could have gotten out, but chose not to. Nobody, even those who made stupid mistakes or lacked common respect for authority should deserve the punishment they are getting.
There is time to be angry later.
I never heard of such.
Private Security...have gun will travel...There was a link posted the other day for just such a group of security professionals..maybe it was them...then again maybe it was SF...
I will.
Go back to DU, troll.
Now you are official.
They all have their own cars and working public transportation.
When there is a Republican President.
If there is a Democrat President, his hands would be tied by not stepping on the toes of state and local officials.
But just getting the people out of the storm area, of itself alone, should have been paramount.
Both NY and Florida had strong leadership at the city and state level to direct the flow of relief efforts. Louisiana apparently has none of that and the Fed lacks the local knowledge required to be effective.
Blackwater Security? They know what they're doing. I think.
Would you believe they were not expecting the levee to fail?
Whether or not they should have, they didn't.
If you accept that, all else is clear.
It isn't really clear there is "incompetance" here, and I'm sure many FReepers could have done better - but resources are always limited, and officials all up and down for nearly three hundred years have made certain decisions regarding New Orleans that contribute to this disaster. Katrina herself contributed a mite, too.
And the people with local knowledge in NO, have in many cases scooted out.
""Yankee Stadium clears out every night in 1 hr- why are there still people in the Super Dome""
"Good point. I wonder why they didn't try to build some sort of makeshift bridge and started walking them out."
Roads are open to the Superdome - the feds should commandere every school buss in the state to get rid of this spectacle NOW
And then find and string up the dumb SOB that did'nt have the slings for the sandbags ready to go last Tues. This is what flooded the city.
