"what is your source for this comparison?"

http://www.noticias.info/Archivo/2005/200501/20050116/20050116_45065.shtm

U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Ralph L. Boyce explained to Wolfowitz that by the day after the tsunami the Thai prime minister had requested military aid. Americans almost immediately started to move U.S. Marines from Japan to assist in the relief effort.

Within four days, Boyce said, U.S. officials had set up a combined support force with 1,500 people from numerous government and nongovernmental organizations. He lauded the Thai government for making a Thai naval base at Utapau available as a hub for relief activities throughout the region.

What is WWL??? Thanks in advance

The CBS affiliate that was in New Orleans. I don't remember exactly where they relocated to (I think it's Baton Rouge, but don't quote me).

Thank you for the "assist", I neglected to mention the part about the mayor's questioning whether he had the authority to order an evacuation.

Yes....do not depend on the government!

I remember hearing a minister from NYC say that he felt these disasters would be coming closer and closer together -- and the government will NOT be able to keep up with them.

That was a much needed rant. I hope it made you feel better. It needed to be said. God Bless you.

I hope you know that so many of us are heartbroken watching this.

we could make this alot better in 2 days, much less 5. if these 40,000 national guard troops were given shoot on sight orders, security would improve very quickly. and that would allow free movement of rescue boats, buses, and helicopters all over the city.

Utterly amazing.

The statement you made

“When I see people walking over the rubble crying over their lost items in MS I think they should THANK GOD they aren't in NO right now.”

is offensive. Would say that people who live in NO should THANK GOD that they are not living in North Korea? It is the same thing.

I have checked your profile you seem sane. I apologized for my posts because I thought I had misread yours, but you respond to NautiNurse in am similar way to you responded to me, so I must consider the fact that it is you.

Reports that this morning in Houston while they were waiting to receive the NO refugees, some homeless people in Houston were trying to sneak in to the Astrodome to take advantage of the "free services."

That's why they've now set a huge perimeter and not even the reporters are allowed close to the Astrodome, only the buses are allowed in.

I think you are right,,nobody expected the flood. They thought they would spend the night and go home the next day. That is how it was with Betsy.

"once Bush federalizes this, the albatross is around his neck".
Not happening. The governors must handle it. Big part of why the great state of Texas is accepting many evacuees.
Odd that "conservatives" would demand federalization. The Democrat party had such a resounding success with reconstruction.

I am very familiar with the Anabaptists. It is wonderful to be cared for by a loving community ... at the same time it comes at the cost of the radical individualism that is the hallmark of late 20th and early 21rst century USA. I reallly cannot see the majority of Americans opening their lives to the kind of scrutiny and peer pressure that is provided by caring community.

"Someone told me that you could always out walk a hurricane.

I would have started walking."

Most runners do not go 14 miles per hour, let alone most walkers. If you can't get out, you either go to a shelter of last resort as the Superdome was, or find a safe room in your house and hunker down...As people are always exposed to people who used this third option every time a hurricane hits, they know they have a chance to survive. And yes I hunkered down for Andrew...

The CBS affiliate in New Orleans; the strongest CBS affiliate in the nation. Before the hurricane hit, just about everybody in New Orleans with a TV watched WWL.
