Every time we have a hurricane, the Sheriff's patrol rides down the road telling us to evacuate, and I just wave, and close the door. Once you enter a shelter, your butt belongs to them.

The typical profile of the "wave and close the door" sorts I knew when I lived in the Gulf...

When the storm surge forced them onto their roof, they got on the CB radio, demanding that the gubmint drop everything else they were doing to rescue them.

I agree. Then again, we don't live in a wood house construction or in an area where wood chip glue boards are used in roofing.

The lesson here is NEVER go to a mass shelter. Evacuate if you must but go someplace on your own. (and stay armed)
