President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I guess NBC missed the NG dropping water off....shame they can't keep up
I Don't know! Glad Bill Hemmer is now there to fill in :)
helicopters are dropping water and food there, and have been all DAY!
They cannot LAND because the crowd, MANY WITH GUNS, rushes the aircraft..
try this. I have not seen the thread so don't know if this is it.

There's a picture somewhere on this thread showing a military helicopter dropping supplies at the convention center.
FEMA is orchestrating a HUGE response, but I'm beginning to think they failed to plan for a HUGE Civil unrest situation, being led by the Druggies and Gangs
......
The south has the worst meth addiction problem. What we're witnessing is thousands of meth addicts flipping out to get another fix. Now people will understand how bad meth is. You don't want methheads or any serious junkie mingling with the drug free masses during a national disaster, spazzing out for a fix.
Refugees crowd the Earnest Morial Convention Center. August 31, 2005
Emergency Teams are being Retasked by local Parrish Pols, and creating confusion!
Thank goodness.
A man and his baby cries out over the body of an old man who died in the chair where he sits on the neutral ground of Convention Boulevard as refugees crowd into the Earnest Morial Convention Center
Say a prayer for that man's soul
Talking about missions. Have to have a special logo with the NG or it's bogus. No call in missions. Changing tactics.....have to have a verifier from the higher ups....
sheesh.....no wonder it takes so long to get anything accomplished. Poor NG....
Yeah, where are Brit and the Beltway Boys, all I see is that 14 year old boy toy that came from CNN and the BLUUUOND Gretchen.
Thanks....NBC is behind the curve.
yes, all E Team responses have a new identifier to make sure they are legit..."LOSEPH" identifier...
The coverage is heartbreaking. If NG and FEMA are bussing people out and bringing food and water, I want to see it so I can feel better!
Can't talk about WHO is retasking on an open radio...
THAT should tell you LOADS about what is going on..
caught something about St. Landries?
you sound intimidated...
(AP) NFL Commissioner says New Orleans Saints likely won't play at the Superdome this season. Please explain!
I think that's pretty obvious.
Not so obvious to me.
What does the cancellation of football games have to do with the availability and possibility of using blimps as a communication source in a town without power and cellphone towers out of commission?
All I got from the article, other than useless info on the need to rearrange the NFL game schedule, and the fact that the writer couldn't spell, was; "We want to really emphasize above all that sport is a small part of life," Tagliabue said.
"We want to use are visibility and the respect we have with the public and the respect our teams have to support the national recovery program. That's the big thing."
Give me a break. The NFL could well have donated more than $1 million bucks in the name of some insincere shared respect.
