President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

WTF can she be thinking? She thinks she needs to dramatize??
Unbelievable - mind boggling.
Do they have a procedure for removing an incapacitated governor?
Why?
Man can you freep mail me what you are hearing...another fellow Bulldawg.
Judy
ps I live near the Tenneess state line. I just emailed my brother and asked him if he knew it was "fotball time in Tenn." I hate tenn.
She actually said that? You saw it on TV?
Well, what was it?
That is the lowest of the low. How many people at that hospital will die unnecessarily because they couldn't be evacuated?
Those gangstas MUST PAY the ultimate price when the NG gets there.
where were his brother and sister located? MS? LA?
FEMA's job is to support local authorities, to give them extra capacity and resources to enable the local authorities to carry out local plans. FEMA brings in extra resources, doctors, search and rescue teams, back up food, water, medical supplies, helicopters and boats.
The problem here is not so much that FEMA has failed to do its part, but that there was no coherent local plan for them to support. FEMA had helicopters on the spot to help save the levy, but the locals has no filled sand bags for them to drop.
I's sure FEMA could have done a lot better, but blaming them for this fiasco is like blaming the sheet rock guy and painters for a collapsed building. Perhaps they could have done more, but the bulk of the blame rests with the folks who designed and built the frame, and that is the local authorities.
I am not watching TV. But what makes it an "attack?" Because someone heard a gunshot?
YOU ARE CHANGING THE SUBJECT TO "GANGSTERS" WHO ARE KILLING PEOPLE, WHICH WAS NOT HOW THIS CONVERSATION, THAT YOU BUTTED IN ON, STARTED. PEOPLE GOING INTO A STORE TO GET DIAPERS, FOOD, WATER, OR EVEN A TOASTER OVEN, DO NOT DESERVE TO BE SHOT. WHERE IS YOUR SENSE OF BALANCE AND HUMANITY?
SINCE YOU HAVE POSTED TO ME IN ALL CAP'S, I AM REPLYING LIKEWISE IN CASE YOU HAVE SOME SORT OF PROBLEM WITH YOUR EYES OR IN CASE IT IS WHAT CAUSING YOUR LACK OF READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS.
I got power & phone service last night. I haven't been boiling water because I didn't know we were supposed to. I haven't gotten sick so far, so my water must be okay. I hope your family in Richland gets power soon. It's really hot down here.
She has been kind of hystrionic from the beginning...
Thats 38 cents a gallon in TX. We can all do the math.
But I would believe that the Federal Government is driven by the gas tax not the income tax.
New Orleans could sure use someone like Mayor Schmitz right now:
http://www.sfmuseum.org/1906.2/killproc.html
NO! BECAUSE DR. GUPTA ON CNN IS IN BATON ROUGE TRYING TO GET THERE AND IS IN CONTACT WITH THE HOSPITAL STAFF. I don't think Gupta would spread a rumor do you ?
GO TO YOU KNOW WHERE.
CAN WE GO TO SMALL CAP NOW?
"... but if I were in New Orleans right now, I'd have gone to WalMart, gotten food, water, dry clothing, weapons and ammunition to take care of and protect my family, too...."
If you REALLY wanted to protect your family you would have all of that stuff already - no matter where you live. And would have piled as much of it as you could into your vehicle and headed north on Saturday.
Says access points are limited so a thousand boats showed up but only 30 could go into the water to rescue people.
