President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

We've just been saying this at the office but that makes sense and this is a Federal operation.
Sometimes red tape can really screw things up.
Who is this young woman talking?
Bad guys are shooting at rescuers because bad guys do not want to leave, nor be rescued. They like things like they are now, they own the city and have total access to everything, merchandise and mansions. In their drugged out little mushed out minds they see this a a God-send. You know, same as Allah be praised when New York was hit.
They cannot see past their nose regading the outcome, no food or electricity to plug in that plasma TV. They can't think that far ahead. They have been and always will be stupid (not ignorant) just stupid.
< Bush's voice sounds very wavery. Is he beside himself? >
I only see one of him on my TV.
Me too, if you get email. I know people there and at Ochner. Armed people at Ochner protecting them. CHNO is bad bad bad.
Goodness.
Thanks for the heads up!!
Bush IS saying...everyone remember---that people should cut down on their use of gas....tell a dem!!!!
Not true. Germany has set up Telephone numbers were people can donate and help the relief effort. Teams are being readied to be sent out.
e.g:

Don't know. They're talking about public assistance checks and how to get them....duh.
Second laugh on this sad day
If they swamp the choppers, then what? I have the feeling a riot is imminent when transportation gets there.
Good to hear, thanks!
ABSOLUTELY 100% CERTAINLY TRUE.
This IS a dry run for CA and NYC and DC and . . .
Assuming many will still be alive to get them. She is so unbelievably out of it I can't even fathom it.
He had to address it ... people are ALREADY in a panic
He was telling everyone that the problem is being handled ASAP
He did the right thing
Not sure.
What in the name of God is going on with the LA state government? It took them FOUR whole days to figure out that they could use school busses for evacuation! Can any LA folks confirm my impression that gov Blanco would be better suited to be a WalMart greeter than a state governor? The woman is totally out of her league. Who was her Republican opponent and how could he/she ever lose to this empty suit?
I know they planned the Astro Dome really well, but are they prepared for the drug addicts and alcoholics?
Yep, NFL played there for years :)
