President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I just left the thread about Bush's press conference.
The Malcontents and Unappeasables are bashing Bush just as much as the liberals ever could.
OK, KALB is full of it -- look at this new article from the Alexandria Town Talk:

Gasoline supplies will be disrupted.
Sounds like the public is in a panic about gas
Uncle uncle uncle ;)
Wrong,,I am getting first hand reports of some of this but not of the carjackings and such. But the city center was in lockdown, the situation at the center for refuges in town is tense and they are telling us to be careful on campus. And we can see the problem in the afternoon.
Some rumors are false, that is true.
Bush/Bush & Clinton New Conferenece:
Col Whitehorn State Police:
Sending 200 police officers.
Chief Lawless (that's the police chiefs name?) Has an additional 1100 police officers in NO.
Requesting special vehicles from FEMA from NO.
Already have deployed 200 officers.
Receiving tons and tons of rumors of hospital takeovers. Sent SWAT teams 2 and three times and found nothing!
Not very subtle.
Which hospital?

Tom Planchet
1:47 P.M. - Blanco: I've requested 40,000 troops.
1:47 P.M. - Governor Blanco: Superdome now under control, evacuations resume.
I don't like his comments about the gas supply.....What he just said is going to exacerbate the problem.
Stupid laws being waived. How about repealing them.
Col Whitehorn State Police:
Receiving tons and tons of rumors of hospital takeovers. Sent SWAT teams 2 and three times and found nothing!
Mostly needs vehicles.
Feel that law and order restored in very short order.
That's shameless.
There was looting after the Northridge Earthquake too. I had to point my mossberg at some gang members to get them to leave....wore my Sig Sauer on my hip for a week, and went through two checkpoints...LAPD said they didnt care.
