President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Tropical Storm 12
Ambulance service cut off New Orleans Hospital Evac because of the danger to crews from looters...
Generator was stolen by looters, shutting down thier communications...
This isn't a RACE thing, it's a basic breakdown in law and order!!
I don't believe MFH would lie to us.
But, if that were the case, they would let us know, not keep folks in the dark.
yep, but i'm an Art Bell fan, even a streamlink member. it helps me go to sleep.
but i have become increasingly disappointed with noory's guests.
he has ventured into Jeff Rense or Black Op Radio territory.
Interview on CNN with the director of an ambulance service. It is a repeat of an earlier broadcast.
Are you sure these aren't the guys who they let out of prison today?
It was destroyed. There's a few people left there that are running absolutely rampant.
There's a lot of different things going on here all at the same time, but I'm seeing a blending of an entire city into one common enemy by FReepers. The acts of the riotous mobs and looters should take nothing from the plight of the refugees who are seeking escape. They aren't the same people.
Several residents of Algiers Point have posted door signs telling would-be trespassers that they are home and have guns to defend themselves. Resident Vnnie Pervel, former Algiers Point Association president, said he and a few other residents had been trying to sleep by day and patrol the streets at night.
He said he was getting 30 minute naps while inside the Superdome.
Which apparently isn't completely accurate since it's becoming clear that he was never in the SD.
James, there has been countless interviews with people who have spent two days sleeping on their roof tops and they can put together a coherent sentence. Call me heartless, but I listened closely to this guys comments both times, and there is something fishy with this particular refugee.
AM so happy to hear your good news....More answered prayers.
DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW ST. BERNARD LOUISIANA FARED?
Don't let the racist bastards get you down.
Ignore them.
The toddlers too? We don't know anything about the occupants of that bus.... hold on a minute.
MFH is spot on with those numbers....
Too bad a lot of Freepers dont believe posts unless Shep breaks wind with it.
it was CNN and the guy was from a hospital talking about the collapse of authority. But said the military was stepping in by morning it'd probably be better by tomorrow, (assuming he lives through the night)
they basically had to stop evac of sick because their folks were getting threatened and feared for their lived.
and everything that could be stolen was being stolen.
madness....
how do you suppose you get out of a city? a city that did not use those buses to evac you in the first place? Is being resourceful a sin?
There is no direction, no realorder. Many of these people don't know if there is order when they are living in it.
Put yourself in these peoles feet. You are in a cesspool. You don't hear from or see authorities. You have no clear direction of what is going on. You might hear rumor that city has to be evacuated and the Astrodome is one place accepting refugees. How do you know the bus was hijacked? Maybe the "20" year old was a school bus driver. Maybe he knew that they were not being put to any use. How do you know the supposed bad motives that drove this guy to take the bus. They got out of the city. If NO needs that bus so bad, they can come and get it and explain to the rest of America why they weren't used 2 days before the hurricane hit.
The Astrodome was set up to receive the evacuees from the Superdome.....there is limited space. Now we have 1...possibly 2 renegade busses showing up...with no clue where they came from and how they came to have the bus. But, oh well. Just like the looters, I suppose they have a right to take whatever they want.
They will be well taken care of and hopefully not cause any problems for the ones that are there to help them.
According to some it's O.K. to lie as long as you are a refugee.
You'd probably be much gratified if they'd instead headed to Cracktown Bellaire instead of lawfully going to the dome where they knew their recent past would be discovered upon arrival.
Color me astounded at your miserly human generosity.
