I think we'll see that in the Gulf Coast region and up along the pipeline. I think the country will have a serious, serious talk about petroleum and consumption.

I think the governor can declare it.

I saw it with my own eyes. In addition, several of my co-workers have said the same thing.

Without specifically mentioning the Democrats, this wouldn't be a bad time to point out that his energy bill has been bottled up in the Senate for five years, that the nation is seriously short of refinery capacity, and that too many of our oil and gas importing, refining, and distribution eggs are in one basket, in a highly vulnerable area. We need more supertanker ports, we need more refineries, we need more nuclear power to decrease our dependence on oil, and we need to open Alaska to drilling.
It's time to get serious and DO something, in the old American way.

Well Thank You, but I did get compensated for it, but it was a nightmare for the people that lived there. It's very surreal to be in a situation like that. A farmer let us burn everything in his field it burned for weeks afterward!

1) I'm in Virginia, and I knew close to 72 hours out that Katrina was heading straight toward New Orleans (with of course no guarantee that it would maintain its current course). Obviously someone did something right concerning tracking AND getting warnings out.
2) There were reports of bus service being provided by the city for the poor a good day and a half to two days before the storm hit.

Well, we now have a whole thread started on it. I guess those who said there is no shortage are going to have to argue with a whole thread of people.

This might be an excellent time to create a new initiative. Reducing energy dependence by 50% over the next 10 years. Increasing refining capacity by 100% and developing oil, gas, coal and nuclear capabilities dramatically.

How is that flat-out wrong? The "vacationing" President called for the evacuation a couple days ago.

It certainly would create those jobs that the left is always saying we need. Can't you just hear the whine now?

Well they are on the way, the Mayor apparently didn't have a clue how to spread his manpower, apparently they do not have enough police, and all that water. I think they need to get police boats, like they have in Pittsburgh, that way the police could get around. I minored in Urban Planning in college and in my opinion, they did not have a very solid plan and certainly lacked in gaming out possible scenarios. Lack of imagination is my guess.

The mandatory evac order was issued sometime Saturday PM, and only after the President twisted their arms. This caused massive traffic delays. I think they did not go the extra mile to get people out because they knew the evac order came so late that it would just cause more people to be stranded on freeways when the storm hit, so they rolled the dice.
I watched this thing almost non-stop, and the only thing I heard was that there were a handful of marshalling locations where people could show up and get a bus, not out of town, but to the Superdome. They were told to bring as much food and water as they could, and bedding. They then were kept waiting outside in the rain while they cleared them to go into the dome one by one.
That's not the way to do it.

Everybody gets so defensive. It is not 'defensive' for others to point out that what you said was not only completely out of place on this thread, but was factually incorrect.
If you were not so defensive, you would admit your error in posting an emotional attack on the President that was not at all valid.

As I have posted elsewhere, the mandatory evac was issued Saturday PM, and only after the President insisted upon it.
