"W saved a whole lot of lives that day while the governors were twiddling their thumbs!!"
Hey I didn't know this. Is it actually true that W told them to evacuate before their own officials? Do you have a credible link? Sorry if I seem skeptical - I love W, don't get me wrong - but its a rare day when any president shines so bright. If you don't have something I'll find it, no problem. Thanks.
All I know is that the very first FR thread announcing the evacuation asserted that the mayor was busy consulting with lawyers when Bush called. Apparently the local officials were not sure they had the legal authority.
The idiot governor here sat on her thumbs. Blanko hemmed and hawed about issuing the mandatory evacuation for NO. On one of the live Katrina threads they told of when Max Mayfield basically told the mayor that he was going to regret his decision to wait the rest of his life. The incomptetent boobs in charge fumbled this big time.
