"Looters in fur coats with guns trying to break into Children's hospital = GOOD

What's it like living in your world?"

You have made me laugh out loud. I have to admit the thought of this is absurd. You did forget they were probably on foot wading through sewage.

"What are the first steps to safe, legal home protection?"

Find a practice range and a local gun show. Go there. Often. Make friends there.

Pardon me, but I think a children's hospital would not have antidepressants, narcotics, or OxyContin-type drugs. These drugs are not given to children. The drugs it has are most likely antibiotics, milder painkillers such as Tylenol III, and the like. The junkies will be very disappointed if they get into that hospital. My guess is they really want to steal the equipment, computers, and TVs - stuff they can sell. Although I'm still trying to figure out who they think they can sell this stuff to.

Yes, a children's hospital has all the drugs any other hospital would have. Tylenol doesn't do much for broken bones or post surgical pain.

Are you really that rude?

Generally just on these hurricane threads. Those of us who care about folks in the path of the storm have had to put up with aggravating comments. It got so bad the other night there were 3 mods working the thread.

Not so sure I would even waste guards on them....

guards only to keep them in.

I was thinking about the drugs used for surgeries, which can be very strong. Or, if these folks aren't too smart, they just might think "drugs."

Or, maybe it's as simple as wanting something clean and dry and a place to lie down.

You could be right, though.

Thanks adam_az. You've been very helpful--I look forward to target practice. It sounds like fun!! In addition to being necessary. Thanks for your sympathy too. I used to live in Philly for many years. I moved to the Hudson Valley NY when I got married in 1989. It gets worse every year!

Thanks. I think I will start with the practice range. I will go often. I think I'll need it, I'm not too good at hitting targets!

We need some volunteers with some assault rifles --anyone tries to break in, shoot to kill...then ask questions later.

Doug Mittelstaedt, vice-president of Human Resources for Children's Hospital in New Orleans, said one of the biggest issues at the hospital on Wednesday was debunking the prevalent rumor that looters had stormed the hospital.

Thanks for the update (and the debunking).

I still say, looters (anywhere) oughta be shot.

Maybe it stem ed from this...

New Orleans doctors plead for help. 9/1/2005, 3:29 p.m. CT

By MARILYNN MARCHIONE

The Associated Press

"(AP) — Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, saying they were nearly out of food and power and had been forced to move patients to higher floors to escape looters."

"We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals."

*snip*
