Late Tuesday, Gov. Blanco spokeswoman Denise Bottcher described a disturbing scene unfolding in uptown New Orleans, where looters were trying to break into Children's Hospital.
Bottcher said the director of the hospital fears for the safety of the staff and the 100 kids inside the hospital. The director said the hospital is locked, but that the looters were trying to break in and had gathered outside the facility.

No Children's Hospital Looting 4:35 p.m.
Doug Mittelstaedt, vice-president of Human Resources for Children's Hospital in New Orleans, said one of the biggest issues at the hospital on Wednesday was debunking the prevalent rumor that looters had stormed the hospital.
Mittelstaedt said things actually were operating smoothly at the hospital - the generator was running efficiently and efforts to relocate patients were going well - but fighting the rumor was a major issue.
Officials had to lock the doors of the hospital because people had arrived, apparently thinking there was a mob scene and they could get in on looting.
He said the hospital has been flooded with calls offering assistance from other Children's Hospitals in Louisiana and Texas. "The amount of calls we have gotten for support have been overwhelming," Mittelstaedt said. "The phones literally have been ringing off the hook."
With so many calls, Mittelstaedt said officials have been able to match up the 100 patients with hospitals that specialize in the particular treatments for each.
Prayers that sanity and calm return.
hey they are just the old and crippled trying to get needed food and water (according to all the libs on this site)...
the police should be helping them break down the doors and loot the stuff !
If martial law has been declared, they can make arrests. If they have the authority to patrol & shoot at people, they damn well better have authority to arrest.
I'm fine with shooting them.
Prayers for your neighbor! I've been praying since I first saw the article.
If ever there were a situation of shooting looters, this is it. At this point a circling helicopter firing pot shots would probably be enough to disperse the crowd. They need to get some air support in there forthwith!
Drugs.
Is there any news on this?
yeah but you forget this is New Orleans ! the freaking cops and security people are probably looting the drugs as fast as the others !
I heard this morning on Fox that Louisiana does not have a martial law option. They call it something like 'emergency situation' which is similar. [hopefully]
I do wonder what looters would want from the hospital? I thought at first perhaps they are just desperate for shelter?? The situation there is drastic.
The people in the Dome are going to be sent to the Astro Dome in Houston.
Was that a pic of people outside hte hospital?
Welcome to FR.
So let me get this straight:
Looters in fur coats with guns trying to break into Children's hospital = GOOD
What's it like living in your world?
Where are all those drug addicts? Are they at the superdome going through withdrawal?
Confidence grows exponentially and mob rule takes effect as the looters witness cops standing idly by doing nothing.
Oh GOD !! don't send them to Texas !!!!
They could send the looters to Texas. That would solve the problem right quick.
Giving free heroin to addicts is NOT a compassionate response to an emergency! We are having enough of a difficult time organizing emergency responses to this situation and you wish to peel away those resources to give out free heroin? This stuff is killing these people and they are, obviously, willing to kill to get it. Maybe this will get it out of their system. They need to be locked up so that they will not harm others trying to help. Can you imagine trying to raise money for relief when people know that part of that relief is supplying drugs to addicts? Good grief.
IRC, the Astro Dome is no more.
