Bottom line is this is the kind of disaster China has been waiting to befall us to give them the upper hand in the energy markets.

I heard yesterday, somewhere, that the Saudis have said they will crank up production as much as they can, and urge other OPEC members to do the same.

Problem is, crude is not what we need. We got crude. We need refinery capability.

An economist was on FOXNEWS earlier who said that states have erected such regulatory and environmental barriers that there's no incentive for oil companies to build refineries.

Hi Sink. I don't think the Saudi's have any more production capacity. I have been reading that again and again the last six months.

My father suggested there be an executive order to ban all the "boutique blends" of fuel through this time period. It would simplify things for the refineries and make it easier to produce the gas we need. It is ridiculous how many different blends are required based on little local laws.

Sad that it might just be this death and destruction that changes that incentive to build more refining capacity.

Not the states per se, but the envirowhackos who built the barriers.

Wolf Blitzer on CNN saying that Gov. Blanco is "heartbroken". I guess that Wolf's way of saying the governor is shellshocked and out of her league.

Ugh, carvile now on(he's a Louisiana native).

We are in the process of building one here in Arizona (Yuma) on the Gulf of California. Need a few more on this side of the country.

"An economist was on FOXNEWS earlier who said that states have erected such regulatory and environmental barriers that there's no incentive for oil companies to build refineries."

Exactly. Therein lies the problem. An even WORSE problem - short term - is that even if all the stupid environazi regulations were waived today and ground broken tomorrow for new refineries, it will 3 to 5 years to get them online if fastracked. No quick fixes there.

We STILL need new refineries.

But they won't give us the instant gratification we crave.

Back to playing catch up....

Saw somewhere that W is considering borrowing fuel from our allies and from EU.
