Yesterday's report was that the Mississipi is not navigable and may not be for six months. They are not even sure where the river will run south of New Orleans after all this flooding subsides. That is assuming that it does in the areas south and east of the city.

Exactly - there are boats and barges on the way down, but they're having to pick their way down and sound their course. They're coming, but it's going to take a while.

Could you post a source for your statement about Mississippi navigability? In particular about the mouth of the major sea-going channel?

Your statement is bloody important if true.
