Get out of the city? You mean downtown specifically, or anywhere in the whole of NO? Will there be 9 feet of water in downtown NO or in addition to all the water in the whole area?
WWL reported from the Mayor's office that NO needed to be evacuated as there will be nine feet of water throughout the city -- didnt give specifics. At first the reporter said 12-15 feet of water and the Mayor's Office called to say nine feet in 12-15 hours.
French Quarter is now taking on water according to reports as well.
Have a local TV station on that is broadcasting out of LSU.
Pump is being shut-off now as water is rising on the east bank. Water will be 3 feet above sea level which means 9 feet above sea level since Jefferson Parrish is six feet below sea level. Just heard on WWL.
Said this area had been unaffected by rising water until now.
They are saying the whole city is being evacuated.
