Um actually Jesus himself said there would be an increase in disasters and upheaval just before the end times. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that this could be a sign. Cosidering how many storms NO has been spared from in the last few years either by change in course or dramatic weakening at the last minute, it is possible. I think it gives unbelievers ammo when people make blanket statements about how God works when in a case like this, we really don't know if this is His judgement. The important thing is to show mercy to the suffering whether we think they we're foolish to stay or not. God knows, I've made some poor decisions in my life and I'm grateful that I'm not paying for them now.
Rains on the just and the unjust!!!!
Anything that could steam was probably sent out to sea ahead of the storm. Modern ships, when handled properly and under power, can right out even major storms (you wouldn't eant to be on board during the storm, though, if you're prone to seasickness). A ship tied up to a pier during a hurricane has a very good chance of being battered into a wreck and sinking.
here we go
here we go
"Aren't there cruises that go to and from NO, also. Wonder what's happening with that..."
Around Saturday or Sunday they reported that the cruise ship....I think they said Carnival....that regularly docks in New Orleans has now docked somewhere on the Texas coast.
The one time I went to New Orleans...I went to meet someone at a software convention (Computer Associates)....turns out she was staying in one of those ships as a hotel room, and caught the norwalk virus from shrimp salad the night before...so I went sightseeing for two days....was still sad to see places I remembered under water...
Maybe they could get people on ships and send them to a port in Florida or Texas, where they could set up refugee camps?
Interesting. So when our cruise season is over here in Seattle, it begins down in the Gulf?
I'm trying to remember what time of year I took my two Caribbean cruises. I want to say it was fall, but I honestly don't know.
Fortunately, many of the people from NO have relatives who will taken them in.
Even God took a day off from creating the universe. I suggest you take a rest.
Or Europe. Cruise ships mostly leave the Caribbean and the Gulf in the summer -- among other reasons, to avoid hurricanes.
Well, soon we can get it FROM Arizona (Yuma)... I think this increase is due to the increase in the price of a barrel of oil to the distributor... we asked one time why it went up .15 between noon and five-p.m. and it was a delivery came in and was priced higher.
did the church of Pat Robertson just let out?
It's something they'll talk about for a long time I'm sure!
I think that is how it works...and you can book a one way from Seattle to the Mexico, or the Caribean I think...really cheap since they are repositioning ships anyway.
Not again! What is this, round six?
I don't know how some of these smaller towns will come back. Everything within 3-6 blocks of the ocean (maybe more in some areas), is completely gone. Municipal buildings, churches, schools, everything will need to be rebuilt. I don't think I'd be willing to take that risk to rebuild... especially in the current hurricane maxima we are in.
"DUMB QUESTION TIME - WHERE ARE HELICOPTERS TO DROP 1000LB POLY PLY BAGS OF SAND INTO THE BREECH?
WHERE ARE THE EMPTY BARGES TO SINK AT THE BREECH TO DO THE SAME THING???"
Why is that a dumb question?
Don't they have the bags ready?
Sounds like FEMA is in "assessment mode." Bureacratic sclerosis. Saw it after the tsunami. Rescue industry talked about "assessments" and so, sat on rear ends, no immediate responses to circumstances.
