DHS press conference occurring right now and carried on WDSU.
great minds think alike . . .
thanks, just turned down Limbaugh and turned up WDSU.
But New Orleans isn't the only issue. There are refugees along a strip the Gulf a mile wide and 166 miles long who also need WATER and it needs to be DELIVERED.
I'm reading about all the horrible logistic problems dealing with getting the rest of the people out of the flood zones. Are the pharmaceutical companies gearing up with tetanus shots, and antibiotic supplies? Water is the first priority, but with the disease factor, medicine is a very close second.
Air drops of quart sized water bottles, and some kind of food rations? Heck, I don't know...
2 WEEKS!!
WTF good is that gonna do?
It needs to be suspended a few MONTHS at the minimum.

10 dead in Jackson County, officials say
The Associated Press
At least 10 people died from storm-related injuries in Jackson County, officials said today.
The deaths were verified by the Ocean Springs fire chief, Jackson County emergency operations officials and Sheriff Mike Byrd.
Most of the deaths were reported in Gulf Hills and in Porteaux Bay. Both are small, upper-middle-class communities near Ocean Springs in the western part of the county just across the Harrison-Jackson county line from Biloxi, where at least 100 deaths were reported by local emergency officials.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said today that search and rescue teams had probably gotten into about 50 percent of the damaged areas and it "may be several days or even weeks" before some areas are reached.
He said structures that had survived Camille were destroyed - "pancaked."
"I was here during Camille. In my opinion, this storm was worse then Camille," he told a news conference at local civil defense offices.
He's done the research, and it is good for at least 5 years. There's lots of websites with all the instructions for packing up the food. He had to use some very specialized containers.
How do you vacuum pack 5-gallon buckets????? That sounds like a great idea!
Got it...thanks
Yes, that's what he said. Clean Air restrictions on fuel have been suspended in all 50 states.
That's just what I said to my husband! I feel like, for the first time since Monday, someone is getting a handle on the scope of what's needed to work on this crisis.
The surge in Mississippi was about as high as the tsunami in Thailand and a bit higher than the tsunami in Sri Lanka.
However, astonishingly, it was only about 1/4 to 1/3rd the height of the tsunami in Banda Aceh.
Overall, a 25 foot tsunami is going to have a bit more force than a 25 foot storm surge; the tsunami rapidly comes in and goes out upwards of 10 times; the surge comes in more gradually and doesn't keep going in and out; that the surge has wind waves in it partially, but not totally, makes up for that.
If you look at the Banda Aceh pics you had areas ABSOLUTELY swept clean; in Mississippi you'll see parts of wooden structures, and some trees, in the surge area.
Now watch the LIB Enviros go absolutely NUTS over this!
Nobody will be going nuts...If I heard correctly...it would only last until September 15, 2005.
(sigh)
whatever
Clean Air Act for all states but I think specifically he mentioned the four states will have some changes made to their gasoline standards. He mentioned specifically Alabama, Louisiana, FLorida and Mississippi.
True. But in the short term it relieves the shipment logistics for existing supplies. Gas can come from anywhere to fill demand, not just from specific refineries.
I imagine that they are going to re=evaluate it as the week passes. This is a first step.
Bush had no choice. He's apparently trying to get the hand-wringing Blanco to act and she's going on TV and whining instead while people are dying. That's another point... you don't hear much about Barbour in MS. That's because HE'S working.
